problems

hey, I have a '98 Grand Prix, it has been giving me trouble lately.
It sometimes doesn't want to start, it doesn't seem to be getting
gas or spark?? The battery is fine. Now It has died on me 3 times,
just driving along and the boost and all dash lights and indicators flash, then nothing, and it will take anywhere from 15 min. to 1 hour befor it will start.
I put a can of SeaFoam in it about 4 weeks ago, it was ok for about 3 weeks
now it is doing it again. Any suggestions??

This sounds like you have a problem with the crank position sensor. This can cause problems with starting and also the stalling problems you stated. It is located behind the harmonic balancer on the front of the engine and it often will not throw a CEL. The other issue could be with the fuel pump or the fuel pressure regulator. You will need to check the fuel pressure at the fuel rail to see if it is within normal range. If not then either the regulator or the pump is bad. The lack of fuel pressure due to a leaking fuel pressure regulator can cause starting problems. If you pull the vacuum line off the regulator and fuel comes out that would indicate a problem with the regulator if not the only other way to tell would be to check it with a fuel pressure tester.

GTPDAD, shouldn't his fuel pres. be around 50 psi when it's running (idle)? would that be considered normal?

And then if it is normal, would a Case Learn help him out? When I swapped PCMs the dealer did my Case for free...

If that's all he had to do, talk about a cheap fix

If he has 45 to 50 pounds at idle he should be fine. I don't think a case learn will help in this situation due to the fact that the problem is stalling. If the fuel pressure checks out then the issue has to either be with the cps or the ignition module.
