HELP...1997 v6cyl.....so many problems
I have a 1997 v6cyl 626 and it has alot of problems.....For starters it is leaking antifreeze, it doesn't smoke too bad while I'm driving....the temperature gauge goes straight in the red after 5 or 10 mins.....I had the thermostat changed.....but then I was told it was the water pump then someone else told me it was not the water pump it was a loose clamp....I'm so confused.....The next problem is the check engine light it comes on whenever it gets ready....Sometimes it goes right back off sometimes it stays on for a couple of days.....I had someone test it with a computer but I was told that nothing was wrong.......The tire on back passenger side keeps going flat....I have brought a new tire and it stills goes flat....I was told that the rim had rust on it and I got someone to scrape it off but still no change....The last thing is the remote doesn't work...it did when I got the car and after about a week it stopped working....I changed the batteries but nothing....I also tried replacing the fuse under the dash but it just blows everytime I put a fuse in it.

HELP...1997 v6cyl.....so many problems
I have a 1998 and had overheating problems. It seemed that fluid was just disappearing. I spent time replacing the thermostat too, to no avail. I finally solved it after battling it for several months. The cooling system is pressurized, and if the pressure is not maintained it will boil over. In my case the overflow resevoir had an invisible crack in the side seam. Replacing the plastic resevoir solved the problem. Also have the caps (filler and resovoir) tested for pressure retention - most shops will do this for little or nothing. It might be as simple as buying a new cap.

If you are blowing a fuse, then you have a short somewhere. If you are not handy with a multimeter than someone else will have to solve that one.

Did they replave the valve stem when you got the new tire? If not, it may be bad. Take off the wheel and fill it up with air. Put it in a washtub filled with water and a little dish washing liquid, then slowly rotate the tire. The leak will be obvious as it will bubble.

The check engine light is difficult to diagnose. More often than not it is an O2 sensor, but wait until the light is 'on' and pull into an autozone - they will test it for free. Don't take the result as definitive, as their testers are not 100%, but it should put you on the right track.

That almost sounds like a fuel filter. Have you replaced it?

Re: HELP...1997 v6cyl.....so many problems

OK.. where does it appear the leak is originating from? If it is under the area of the water pump and the hoses appear dry, it is most likely the shaft seal on the pump which means the pump needs replacing. Now remember, one problem may cause others so have the cooling system reverse flushed. Most any compident mechanic can do this. I have had radiators plug with gunk, cause the motor to overheat and spew coolant from odd places. Also.. I had a ford 3.8 v6 where the water pump impellers rusted off thus creating no coolant circulation and once again, no heat, boilover and coolant loss. Reguardless, you really need stop driving this car and get it to a shop and have it fixed
