Question curious about qmile times.....

ok, i have a 95 2.3l dohc 150hp, with a magniflow cat. everything else stock. 150hp is base, and id say from the feel of it, i gained about 2.5hp from the cat so thats 152hp. so i decided to do a little ghetto quartermile trial, in which i reset the odo. to 0 and went to the stop watch on my cell phone. i hit the button between .2 and .3 miles (.25mi/quarter mile) and it said 16.45 sec.. is that right? i was just wondering if that's avg for it or not... i just figured it would be somewhere around 15.3sec (or maybe i was just dreaming..) soooo.... how much hp do you think high perf. cams and gears would get me + a magniflow non catback oval muffler?

Radical cams and gearing without a properly tuned fuel system, induction system, and a full exhaust system will not be very effective. Not to mention throwing only new cams in the motor without other internal modification will cause a great deal of stress for the car, and your wallet.

i wouldnt he has no idea what he is talking about.

IF you want to do cams and gears then go ahead and do them. You might need to tune them some, but most cams arent going to be so wild that they throw your AF ratio way off. Any car that comes from the factory runs alot richer than what it needs to run, jsut to preserve the life of the engine for as long as possible. A mild cam and gear set would be rather benneficial. Id say you could pick up around 15 HP on that engine. If you need to tune it, get an FMU or FPR with a wideband sensor.

Also as long as the cams are mild and not to over the top the engine will hold just fine. Its not gonna put a ton of extra stress on the engine, not enough to cause any damange as long as you stay relastic with the gains. The extra HP wont be a problem for the engine to take, thats a fact. The one problem you will have if your cam profiles are to wild is that you can float your valves and wear out your lifters and valve springs faster. But like i said a mild cam grind wont do that.
