Post Édouard Michelin's death

Édouard Michelin, the co-managing partner of the French tire company that bears his family name, was killed Friday in a boating accident. He was 42.

Mr. Michelin was killed near the island of Sein in the Atlantic off western France, a company statement said.

Mr. Michelin joined the company in 1985. The company said its other managing partner, Michel Rollier, would take over.

Mr. Michelin joined the company in 1985, nearly a century after it was founded in 1889 by his great-grandfather Édouard and his great-great uncle André Michelin.

The younger Édouard Michelin held various posts in research, production and sales. He was a production manager at the company's Puy-en-Velay factory before becoming chief executive of its North America subsidiary.

He became a managing partner in 1991 and was appointed head of Michelin on June 11, 1999.

Re: Édouard Michelin's death

Heard about it when watching the Monaco Grand Prix, was a sad thing to hear as well. Kind of a fitting tribute to have three Michellin clad cars on the podium though...

Re: Édouard Michelin's death

Too young, indeed. RIP.

And for gallows humor, I must say, "Chief, this was not a boating accident!"
