HELP: CAR WON'T START. Many fast clicking sound.

I started installing a power door lock kit in my car last weekend. and today when I tried to start my car, it won't start. I hear many very fast "click click click ..." sound when turn my key to the start position. They are very fast. And in my car, something is beeping 5 times periodically (I do not have an alarm)

I haven't connected my power door lock to anything yet. I was just testing it by itself (using power from the power window connector).

I have tried jumping the car, but the same clicking sound is happening and the car still won't start. Even without using a jump cable, I was able to use my radio, lights, etc...

Has any one experienced this?

PLEASE HELP!

i wouldnt think this would be anything to do with the door lock. i would think it will more than likely be that the starter motor is nackered. can u tell where the clicking is coming from? it could just be connecting but nothing is happening because the motor wont turn over, causing the clicking noise)

just something i remembered to edit on to the post, if you dont get it sorted in about 12 hours time i will ask my dad whos a mechanic (thats where i get my bit of know how from) what he thinks it is cos he will prob hav a much better idea than me.

technically I have a Del Sol, but it should be the same as a Civic.

The sound is coming from behind the engine. Not under, but closer to the passenger compartment than the engine is.

I posted the power door lock bit because I thought I may have done something electrically.

Thanks.

starters not getting enough juice to turn it over, or its bad. charge your battery and try it, the eye may look good but it may be just above changing color. if its not a drained battery try having someone tap the starter with a hammer while you crank it over, if its not that bad it shuld crank.

IT WAS THE BATTERY AFER ALL.

The first time we tried to jump start the car, nothing worked. After tring so many different things, we tried to jump it again.

This time it finally got the car started. During the process, I managed to stall the other car twice while starting my engine. Then my car finally started when the other car revved his engine to around 6000 rpm for a while.

Thanks for everyone's help!

The clicking noise is your starter solenoid. It will only click once if your battery is outputting enough juice and then the starter will turn your flywheel, but if the starter is not getting enough juice, you get the repeated clicking. I guarantee you if you left your headlights on for a few minutes, the battery would have completely drained. A stock radio uses almost no current as well.

next time, make sure you turn your dome light off

That gets me the more often than everything else.

That is where your starter lives.

Ture, but it sounds like you have a sulfated battery or a bad connection at the battery terminal.

Did you disconnect the terminal when you are working on the power door lock? Best to disconnect the battery terminals and clean the battery post and post clam with a wire brush.

Not really, the true problem is that the eye is only monitoring that one cell inside the battery while the other cells are low on electrolite. If your battery is old (about 5 years) and seems to need a jump alot, I wouldn't even bother trying to save it, just change a new one because the battery has already reached it's life spent. :smoker2:

This is slightly irrelevant, but I thought it was worth mentioning. My 92 Geo Storm has had the original factory battery in it for 10 years. It started acting like it was gonna give up the ghost about a month ago, and upon inspection, I almost died. The guys at Autozone couldn't believe it either when I went down to replace it. Kind of amazing that one of the lowest-quality cars on the planet managed something like that.

GEO POWER! (or something)
