97 avanger... 4000.00 good deal??
I am looking at a 97 avenger es, 2.5L V6, auto, 121000 miles, loaded, leather ect... I was told the trannys do not last long... is that true??

I don't even think Kelly Blue Book would be 4 grand. I wouldn't pay that much. Maybe if it had less than a 100,000 miles. Mine was perfect and then i went 1000 over 100,000 and the entire engine blew. Luckly for Dodge my extended warranty expired a month before the engine blew.

I have a 97 avenger ES, loaded other than leather... got it for 3, and it only had about 101k miles. And yes, a lot of people have had the tranny problems in these cars.
But... 4, maybe just check the car over... if you really want the car, go for it. But it seems a bit to much for my likes on how many miles it has... and to how much i spent on my car. There's also nothing wrong with my car, tranny is great, engine great, no leaks, nothing. It sits stock until summer, but it's running great.

went for a gmc jimmy instead, leather loaded... drove it 2 weeks the tranny died today at walmart no warning nothing, I have reverse and 4th thats it... should have went for the avenger...

Probally is and do not go by the kelly blue book.The kelly blue book goes by the condition of the car.The Dodge Advengers sell very good.The 2.5 is a very good engine,you cannot kill it.Used parts are hard to come by from any auto salvage yards.I replaced one transmission in one my father sold,the pin that hold the spider gears went through the case and broke it.It was easy taking the bolts out and it was a pain in the butt to get it out,took an half an hour to get out.
