The book says 32lbs. You should consider this as your minimum!
Slightly higher pressure (up to 34-35 lbs, will improve your handling, improve your gas mileage, improve your resistance to tire damage from potholes, reduce your tire wear, and give you a slightly harsher ride. Running 1-2 lbs higher in front then in back will also help cancel out some of the understeer that virtually all front drive cars, like our Maximas, have. Even a pound or two below the factory recommendation will degrade all of the factors above, and make you more subject to a tire failure. Remember too that tire pressure should be measured "cold" (i.e. with less than a mile or two of driving), and that tire pressure can drop 4 lbs or more as you go from the summer to the winter months (about a lb for every 15 degrees of temp drop). I run my 2000 Maxima SE at 34 front, 33 rear on the street, and 42 front, 36 rear on the autocross track. On my previous car (a 93 Honda Accord) I got longer tire life on a car that went to the race track 1-2 per year, running, high performance (and therefore shorter tire life) low profile tires, then many people get out of the stock tires, running similar pressures, and keeping very close tabs on tire pressure.

If I am correct (and I know I will be corrected if I am wrong...)
the proper tire pressure is listed on the tire itself as well as (at least for the 2k3) inside, on the top of the armrest. I quote from the manual: "TIRE PLACARD The cold tire pressure is shown on the tire placard affixed to the console box lid."

Lower air pressure increases rolling resistance, your car consumes more gas,
Lower air pressure increases the temperature, as the tire side walls bend more, decreasing your tire life. Lower air pressure lowers the performance of your tire BUT !!!! Be careful not to pass the max pressure indicated in your tire, remember that pressure indicated there is THE MAXIMUM, which means in hot conditions, or whatever extreme conditions. Clean you tires perfectly, inflate them to 32, and go for a hard drive, when your back, see if you used all the thread in the tires, if you used part of the side wall, you need to increase the pressure one or two psi |
