I cant decide

Hi, im 16 right now and i have a 1964 chevy malibu. Interior is excellent, it needs paint and quarters, but they are not that bad at all. It also needs brakes and tires. I just bought tune up stuff, plugs, wire, ignition coil, rotor....

Im not sure what to do. I really want a muscle car. I just like they power they have and they look really cool.

MY question is do you all think it would be worth selling my car for a muscle car or should i keep my car and put a nice V8 in it.

Really the only muscle cars by me for sale are a 1969 mustang 250 and a 72 camaro. Also a 73 mustang and i think thats pretty much it right now.

I bought my car for $2500. It only has 69k miles on it and it runs excellent for being an inline 6. The 69 mustang is $1500 and the 72 camaro is $1750. Both need a good amount of work.

I really dont mind mechanical work as i own 3 dirt bikes and love to do major work on them.

What do you all think i should do.

well mr chevy seeker, a small moter such as a dirt bike 2 stroke, isn't the same as a 4 stroke v8 but im sure you can get the theory of opperation if you can handle a wrench...keep the malibu, its not a 'muscle' car as being knowen for being the fastest out there, but, that makes the project all the more fun, a a th400 or 350 with a well built small block will go just fine for ya

I'd stick with the Malibu if it's in pretty good shape. It's probably a little rarer than a 69, 73 Mustang or 72 Camaro. Fix it up, enjoy it for awhile, do the motor swap if you like and get some experience. Then down the road you'll be that much more knowledgable and the work you put into the Malibu will make it worth that much more if you decide to sell it. You may just want to keep it though.

I know you want a killer muscle car, but in your other posts you say you're short on cash. Since your 64 Malibu runs good, just do the tires and brakes like you planed so it's safe. Your 4 door, 68,000 mile $2500 Malibu will be way nicer than any "Muscle car" you can afford. I'll bet it drives real nice. A $2000 Mustang or Camaro will be JUNK.

Don't even worry about installing a V-8. Just tune up that low mileage 6 and enjoy driving your first car while you save up some money.

yeah dont freak out and try to do a frame up restoration like i did. i started my junior year in high school restoring a 73 chevy pickup and its towards the end of senior year now and i have a good looking frame and a primered cab and thats it so far lol... it takes forever and my original budget of 2 or 3 grand has grown to 10 grand... so i would just fix your quarter panels and the tires or whatever you sed was wrong, then i would undercoat the car really good, paint it if necessary, and later on, drop a beefy 350 in there or something. you can get one with vortec heads from a junkyard pickup truck and then all you have to do is replace the cam for it to top 400 horsepower. thats all you need, any more will kill low end power and your muscle car will get its butt kicked on the street

good luck and make sure if you weld any panels in that you fit them as well as possible and check that they are straight before you weld lol... i was an idiot and just randomly welded in stuff and now i have somewhat crooked cab corners, although the bright red should hide it pretty good lol...
