swap 2.2l ecotech for 2.0l sr20?

How hard would this swap be? I am about to change my transmission out and i figure this would be a good time for an engine swap. I want to put a turbo engine in my 97' cavalier insted of turboing the ecotech and blowing it. So i have decided on a 2.0l turbo sr20. Is the a turbo engine that would be better for this swap?

.....WTF are you serious a SR20 why?
I mean no disrespect by this but it sounds like you have no idea of what your talking about. Just because your gonna swap your tranny your gonna replace your motor . Also a eco is a very good motor. The 2.0 eco is whats in the Cobalt SS and since it has a smaller displacement it can rev higher, meaning still have power even at redline, not to mention it can power a supercharger. Wait how did you get a Eco into a 97? If you were to have a eco in that car you would probably be in the low 15's, which would be very decent for a cavalier. Also do you know about the SR20DET? You would need a harnest, tranny and i EXTREMLY doubt you will ever be able to put a SR20 into a cavalier, It dosent even bolt on to the car. Take this as a suggestion. Please learn more about your car before you start trying to mod it.
Once again i say this with no disrespect.

Re: swap 2.2l ecotech for 2.0l sr20?

First of all, the SR20 is a rear wheel drive motor, which will require a matching rear end and drive shaft, if you can even get it to fit. Plus you'll have to find the motor, wiring harness, ECU, matching transmission, and fabricate motor mounts. It's a great idea and I'd love to do the same, but for us, it's financially impossible, and the time it will require would prevent you from having a job. Maybe if we had a million bucks to blow and no job, and no need for a job...

Alright, well thats the reason i asked how hard it would be because i wasn't sure how different it would be from the ecotech. It is small enough to fit under my hood and comes turboed. I ecotech 2.2 comes stock in '97 cavalier and i personally would choose a turbo engine over a 2.0 cobalt super charged engine anyday. Also, i want to change my engine out when i change my transmission because you have to drop the engine-transmission setup out of the car, to replace the transmission unless i use a brace or hoist. So if im dropping the engine out, might as well just toss it while its out because I dont trust the 2.2 to run a turbo unless i completely rebuild the engine with forged parts, which i think would be a waste of time. They are putting vette v8's in 240sx's nowadays. Regular people. so i thought, it couldn't be too much harder than that.

95-97 cav's come with the 2.2L Ln2 OHV my friend, 02-05 were the ecotec.. drop the ( H ) its not a new version of a phone.

If the kid wants to put in the motor go do it and have fun. Cripe a 96 Grand Prix GT isn't suppose to be Rear wheel drive..

But take a Nissan 300ZX rear, shorten it by 2 inches, turn the engine side ways, 700R transmission, one off subframe, custom drive shafts... anything can be done! One of our projects at the shop.

Re: swap 2.2l ecotech for 2.0l sr20?

Alright, got it. Sorry about the whole noob thing. Any engine I could fit in there that would handle a turbo? or should I just sell the cavy for a 240? I already have quite a bit of money in the cavy though.

Re: swap 2.2l ecotech for 2.0l sr20?

it may not bolt up but aren't there front-wheel drive versions of the SR? I'm not trying to undermine anybody or give new hope, but i kno that there are sentra's out there with the SR in them...but i am not sure if the engine is mounted normally or transversed...
