Whats it worth?
94 1.9L automatic 190000 miles. Car is still reliable and 35 miles to the gallon overall. Starting to shimmy. Needs tires and the mechanic (one I trust) says it needs a cv joint and both tie rods. $700 for 4 tires, tie rods, one cv joint, alignment and labor. Any thoughts?

Re: Whats it worth?
That price sounds about right. I do that kind of work on my own car, and its a fair amount of effort to replace a CV joint. Very tiring to my old back, since I dont have a hoist to raise the car. I think you actually replace the axle shaft with a rebuilt one, not just the CV joint. At 190,000 miles its not surprising it would need those items.

Re: Whats it worth?
Thanks d. My mechanic said almost the same thing about the labor involved with the cv joint and the tie rods. Guess I'll have it done because it's a good little car.

Re: Whats it worth?
Now I am envious. Our '92 only gets 30.5 mpg, even when I am driving just slower than the 18 wheelers, on flat terrain. I wonder what the difference is?
