Handbrake adjustment???
Sorry for a simple question. Hope the answer is simple.
My handbrake needs to be pulled all the way up to its last ratchet before it stops the car rolling away. How do I adjust this please? Many thanks. |

my car has the same problem and i was wandering the same thing but too busy/lazy to look into it. i had a 96 240sx before and it had a nut right under the e-brake when u pull it all the way up. i just tightened this nut. i'm not sure if it's the same on the x-trail. i'll look if it has or not tomorrow and post something.

Re: Handbrake adjustment???
Your vehicle's handbrake can be adjusted by a mechanic in the vicinity of the rear brakes at the back of the brake drum.Your mechanic is supposed to know where to make the adjustment.
For my own use I bought a CD manual for my X-trail on ebay at a small cost and all of this info and more is answered on it. Keeping the vehicle in gear or in park can damage your gear box or transmission so this is not something that you should practice. Hope I helped you. Re: Handbrake adjustment???
take it in to a shop, it isnt the proper way to adjust your ebrake by tightening the screw under the actual lever, it needs to be done at the caliper, or drum itself

Re: Handbrake adjustment???
remove the rear wheels and adjust through the brake disc. UK xtrails have rear brake pads but handbrake shoes. not to hard to do.

Re: Handbrake adjustment???
I have had the same problem. Main dealer will adjust in seconds by adjusting nut under handbrake lever. Needs caution however I'm told because of anti lock brake system.

Re: Handbrake adjustment???
No need to worry about the ABS will not effect it in any way.
