ipod accessories
well im looking at ipods and i really want to be able to play it in my car. i read in a thread in here about having to take out the hu and soddering crap and stuff like that. well im not that advanced yet. what do you guys know about the ipod to-go thing that plugs into your cig. lighter outlet? i heard all you have to do is enter a radio station thats not being used into your to-go thing and you can play your ipod throught your car speakers. well why don't people do that instead of doing all the electrical work. is it just not reliable or something? that's all i gotta' say about that.
btw i'm refering to this post : http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...highlight=ipod

Re: ipod accessories
Well, the reason people do it the harder way is because of sound quality. Because it is being played through a radio station, it sounds like it. If you go under a bridge it will cut out, and all around it just sounds kinda fuzzy. It is a good way to go if you dont care about what it sounds like, or if you are using a friends car for a road trip...but everyday driving, if you like loud music, just isnt that great. Quite frankly I dont see why people dont just burn MP3 cd's, because when will you ever use 10 gigs of space on your Ipod, or ever get it organized great. IDK, to each his own, but i just use MP3's.

Re: ipod accessories
i use the itrip for my mini, which is the radio transmitter ur talkin about, and the sound quality im sure isnt as great but if u have a good system i dont think it will matter, i dont notice it with the setup i have in my car. the only complaints i have about the itip is changin the station is not as convenient as u would like and sometimes on long trips u get a another signal from a radio station using the same frequency. but i do kno that there is another radio transmitter that is made by a company called berklin or something like that i believe, that plugs into ur data port on ur ipod and then into the cigarette lighter. that charges ur ipod along with playin music, and its pretty easy to change the station

Re: ipod accessories
rodbls, do you think a garage will do it for me (for a price of course). i just don't have the experience or knowlege to do it on my own.
i plan on getting a new car in the future, will it be easy to undo all that and put it on my new car? i'd imagine it's just doing the opposite of what this http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...highlight=ipod tells me to do. but the agian, if i can do the opposite, shouldn't i be able to do it the non-opposite way and just do it on my own in the first place?

Re: ipod accessories
I'm sure if there is an audio store around you that does installs they would put it in for you. Do you already have an aftermarket HU? If not, they do sell aftermarket ones that are Ipod ready with a port in the back that all you have to do is plug it in to the AUX IN. Honestly I dont think it would be that hard, and Im not an electrical wiz kid. You dont have to solder, if you take it to a shop they will crimp because its faster and holds just as well if you do it right. IDK, its up to you, but I bet with a little reading you could figure it out quick.

Re: ipod accessories
Well, I know for sure that Kenwood makes a few.....other than that IDK. Anything with an AUX input will be able to be used with an Ipod. Maybe just ask around local shops to make sure, but I am pretty sure any Aux input deck can take one.

Re: ipod accessories
Buy any head unit that has an Aux Input RCA jack and you will be ok. All you have to do is buy a cable that converts from RCA to Headphones and plug it into the pre-out in the back of your deck and then turn it to the AUX Input channel and your be set. Cost like 5-10bucks at radio shack for the core and takes 5 minutes to do
