i just bought this 95 jetta III for 2500. its got 103k miles on it. very clean car. im new to VW so i dont no much about it yet. its a automatic (not what i wanted). my problem is that i cant drive it in D i have to manual shift it from 1st-3rd. it does fine 1st and 2nd shifts kinda weird into 3rd. takes a little longer then it should causing the motor to rev up a little. but when i put it into D it goes all kinds of crazy. it doesnt kno what gear to go into. seems like its in neutral some times. i had the oil changed new air filter radaditor flushed and tranny fulid checked had lucas oil put in it. the car runs a lot better now but im still having problems when in Drive. i took it to a transmission shop and they told me it would be 3k for a new tranmission and that i needed one. i've heard that the small box under the rear seats controls the automatic transmission. could this be my problem? or does it just need a new tranny? any advice on VW's would be great. thanks
