Need opinions ASAP before this weekend!
Ok heres the deal. Most of you know that my motor crankwalked and I've been looking for a 6 bolt for it. Here is a nice little deal I have come across but am unsure of if I should do it or not...
Recently, my Firebird has been breaking everytime I try to drive it so its on its last leg and I hate working on that motor. I know the 4g63's so much better now and can fix most things pretty quickly on my own. I found 2 90' Lasers for sale as a package together. One is a non-turbo that is running and in really good shape, automatic. The other is a turbo with a broken timing belt and I'm sure some valves got bent in the process. It's a 5 speed too... Both cars have perfect interiors and both cars have almost perfect exteriors. (the turbo one has a little dent behind the drivers door towards the bottom.) They are pretty close to where I live and I have no problem getting them and such and fixing them. My plans are to just pull the motor out of the turbo one and rebuild it as my new motor for my 2g and then drive the non-turbo as my daily. Then as soon as I get the Firebird fixed, sell it, then once I get the 2g running, part out the rest of the 1g shell. Then I'll have two DSMs to drive around... Anyways, my question at hand is, how much do you think these two cars are worth together? The non-turbo has about 120k miles... I think they are a good deal since both are so clean and nice... But yeah, I'm open to all opinions as I need to get this figured out before Sunday so I can go get them on Monday.(my only day off from work)

Re: Need opinions ASAP before this weekend!
I'd say about $2k for both. Or 1500 for the nt and 500 for the bt (broke turbo)

$2500 TOPS if they're in really good condition and the nt runs excellent.

Re: Need opinions ASAP before this weekend!
Ok, so I talked to the guy and he wants 1500 for both... I really wanna buy both but I am just 300 short of having enough because the good ol' government bent me over on taxes for my paycheck. (took over 200 dollars out of one freakin paycheck.) So, all I want is the turbocharged one. If anybody else wants the non-turbo though, lemme know ASAP and we can work something out to benefit both of us on this awesome deal. Because I really need just the turbo one and right now I'm trying to get him to just sell me the turbo Laser since I'm short on the 1500... Damn, I can't wait to get this thing. I would really like to have both so I have a daily driver for the moment but oh well I guess. Beggers can't be choosers.

Cool beans, good luck with your plan.
Won't the guy wait 'till your next paycheck and hold the car?

Re: Need opinions ASAP before this weekend!
Woo you need to get those. I wish I could afford the NT from you as a DD, but since insurance is mandatory on all driven vehicles, it'd kill me. The only turbo laser I've ever seen around town is mine, so they're definitely more rare. Just a tidbit: 90 turbo laser only came in 5 speed. I had no idea until after I got mine. Good luck though!

I'm thinking this would be really sweet but the only thing I don't like is that the turbo laser has about 200k miles on it. So I know certain engine sensors and such will be going bad and I'll have a lot of money in replacing those... My newest option that has arised is my brother found a complete 4g63 from a 91' and it only has 100k miles on it and they only want 400 bucks... So I'm not sure if I should go for that entire 1g for 500 with 200k miles on it or this 91' motor with 100k miles on it for 400 bucks... The nice part about the motor is that its only 30 minutes from my house whereas the car is about 4 hours away. lol Any thoughts or opinions on this motor?... Oh yeah, I almost forgot... the motor is from a non-turbo. Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't they the exact same motor with the exception of the internals? (compression, cams, etc.) If so, that won't matter since it'll be getting all aftermarket internals. lol

Re: Need opinions ASAP before this weekend!
The n/a motors dont have oil jets either. I would go for the whole car first just because you can take the motor and part out the rest of the car and probably make your money back

Actually... Has anyone actually pin-pointed the exact cause of crankwalk or is it still just a billion theorys?... Cause I could always rebuild my 7 bolt and change whatever I need to change to avoid crankwalk again. That would almost be the best route to go if we knew what causes the crankwalk.

Re: Need opinions ASAP before this weekend!
The oil jets on a turbo motor help cool/lube the cylinder walls and since the n/a motors dont put down the power/heat they are not needed but I think you can get away with out them. As for the cause of cw here is what I know, Crankwalk is a failure of the thrust mearing(main bearing) and I would think the cause would be poor lubrication/ poor bearing material but I dont know for sure
