93 Taurus cranks but won't start
Putting this in again with full details. If someone could give me any ideas I would appreciate it. Thanks
I'm 24hrs from taking this heap to the dealer. I have a 93 Taurus 3.0 automatic that won't start. Cranks really good and has good power at the coil and orange to blue spark at the plugs. The CCRM has been swapped and grounds checked. The module itself shows it is grounded as does the two wires going into the harness at the CCRM. I've grounded an injector and can't see that it pulses at all. I have 12v at both the red wires coming out of the CCRM (PCM power???) The check engine light stays on when it cranks and the fan (high) and fuel pump continue to run just as soon as you turn the key to the on position. I have gotten it started one time by luck. Cranked and ran for 1 min or so and then just shut off. The second it died the radiator fan came on full blast and could hear the fuel pump. This thing is driving me crazy. Any ideas? I would like to check the CCRM values and or something else. I have inspected the wires every place I can see and only found 2 things that were not normal to me. 1) The set of wires (connector) that connects to the air box is missing the clip to hold it up but pushes on fine and seems to stay on. 2) On the back of the fire wall there are four connectors that come out of a harness just behind and slightly to the drivers side of the intake as you look back to the firewall. Two of the wire connectors go to the wiper motor. One goes to a little box/relay/module looking thing that is mounted on the top of the firewall and the other is just hanging there and I can't for the life of me see anything it hooks to. All of the wiring on this car looks as if it were never touched. The car only has 100,000 miles on it and I've seen it purr like a kitten...just can't get her on her feet... Thanks for any help you may give. If you would like to talk on the phone instead of posting to this message please PM me with your number and I would love to talk to someone who can help me with this problem car. Thanks for your help. Mr. Tripp Augusta, GA |

I also remember reading someone's posts about a problem with their Taurus, I believe they were having similar issues. My recall is that their problem turned out to be a faulty wiring harness for the EEC-IV diagnostic connector. You may want to search for "EEC" and "wiring" to see if you can find that thread. Quote:

Re: 93 Taurus cranks but won't start
Just got back from buying a Haynes manual and have a good wiring diagram now. Was messing with the curcuit breakers in the fuse box (inside) and just happened to turn the key and she fired up. Drove her around the block for 10 min or so and then stopped.....wouldn't start back. Then 10 min later she fired up again and I drove her around again and she wouldn't start after I shut her off. Now back to where I was...won't start and may be weeks again before she does...damn this is frustrating.
The only thing I did was go back and make sure that all fuses work. (I have a 10 and 5 am near the top of the box that have no power getting to them at all. I will check in the book. I also checked the fuel pressure at the rail and I have about 40 lbs and think this should be enough. I'm going to pull the plugs out and see if maybe they are fuel fouled. As far as the plug on the back wall I can take a pic of it...how do I post the pic on this site? Thanks Greg |

Re: 93 Taurus cranks but won't start
Hmmm, that is odd. There is probably a sticker on the back side of the fuse panel cover or in the glove box showing the circuits that those two fuses are for. Some fuses will only have power to them when the key is on, and some boxes have spare fuses, but those are usually located in the cover of the box rather than in the panel itself.
The fuel pressure sounds about right, is the fuel pump still running all the time? -Rod |

Re: 93 Taurus cranks but won't start
Got er done......
Decided to swap out the ECM (ECA-Computer) and she started right up. She has started several times since so think that is what was the problem. Thanks everyone for all your help. Mr. Tripp Augusta, GA |
