Fujimi McLaren MP4-12C GT3 Gulf

Here’s the plan for this kit. Gulf Decal and P/E Parts from Studio 27. The kit itself doesn’t come with any P/E parts despite the price. Fortunately, there’s many after-market maker that are doing details sets. Here I use the Studio27 one coses it was one of the first available, but Hobby Design also make one which is a bit more complete. Anyway the Studio 27 one look to be enough to build a nice detail kit.





First thing to do is to remove the fake plastic mesh Fujimi did on the body. It’s fairly easy task if you have the right tool. Fujimi even made the plastic tinner around the front grill to make it easy to guide your saw in the curvy part. Looks like they knew we would remove it…

I have the same kit with the same Decals. What Color ist the rigth??? I don't know, but i prefer the Gulf orange from Zero Paint...or the Tamiya X6...

This one is in my stash to. Still thinking wich set oft decals i'm gonna buy. I love the GULF version. And there are 2 diff versions. The Macau version as above and the one Gulf blue with the Gulf orange stripes on top that competes in the Blancpain series.. I even like the Von ryan... Damn its a hard choice.

A lot of sanding is required. The edge of the kit are a bit rough and some “flash” is even present. Dry test fitting is required since door panels aren’t 100% perfect fit. I personally filled the gap with putty and redid the panel line on the top of the door.



PhotoEtched disk are nicely done. Danding is required to remove the basic detail of the Fujimi brake, then PE parts are added. I used Alclad Steel and Pale Burn Metal.



Not really a “must do now”, but I wanted to do the air intake now. Plastic mesh must be removed from the Fujimi fart then PE grill added. An easy job if you have a pine vice and a sharp blade.



The whole chasis is carbon on the MP4-12C, but since only very few is shown once the kit is done, I only did the rear part.



The rim on the real car have more of a gold-ish color, which is quite hard to replicate. I did them with a mix of GunMetal and Burn Iron. It’s still not a perfect fit, but it’s close enough.


Body is ready for painting. Primer is done and few other parts (not shown here) are primed also and ready for paint.

Looks great so far. Cant wait to see this with decals.
Only these rims are wrong. Fujimi enclosed the rims from the 2011 test car.
Hopefully Fujimi brings a new kit with the 2012 spec, like the Z4 GT3.

Hobby Design already makes the correct rims, and they are pretty good.

Very small update on the rim/tire. I tried to replicate the mold line on the tire. Not perfect, but it's close enough.
