SES on, runs BETTER?

It popped on during a particularly long stretch of higher speed driving (200 miles in 2 hrs 15 minutes!) and hard coded, been on since.

Odd thing is it's actually running quite strong...effortless wheelspin if I don't keep my foot out leaving lights, idle is just slightly more harsh than normal, normally I am not even aware it's running at idle in gear, now I can feel the motor a bit, idle speed is the same. Fuel mileage for the trip was within what I'd expect for the speeds involved...I'm betting I'll see a mpg drop now during normal operation.

Intake sound through the K+N and uncorked box has a different character...less boomy and more business. Only other thing I've noticed is the exhaust odor is really strong with fuel at start-up. No soot.

So what do we think? You know I'm too lazy to scan it, rather think my way through if possible.

Obviously I'm overfueling slightly. In a linear manner, like just ahead of what throttle opening would actually call for, so it's not like I'm dumping fuel at idle and using it when I step into it...just like the fuel map has changed to the rich end a bit.

So I'm gonna guess the MAF is going screwy for my first shot in the dark.

My ex-boss still has the old BAR 90 analyzer from the shop at his house. I'd like to have a look at the emissions and see what's happening there, and he might still have our pyrometer, I could see if the cat is dealing with the change well or not.

Truthfully, I like what I'm seeing. Long as the cat don't burn and the plugs don't foul and economy is still tolerable, screw it, it runs like a beast.

I might do a meter check on the MAF and see if my suspicion is correct.

What else do we think could cause this? Divine intervention (Thank you, holy mother of the blessed acceleration...)? ECM gone insane from years of putting up with my unreasonable demands?

If the MAF is causing this, and I can quantify the fault and reproduce it with an inline resistor or something, who wants to buy the first one?

I know...I'm nuts. NUTS ABOUT MY CAR!!

Maybe this is her thanks to me for deciding not to trade her for that Z34 slut...

Jeff, why would you purposely not use a tool that can instantly tell you why the light is on? That makes no sense. Scan the car and be done with it.

c'mon please scan it, and put my name on the list for the first inline resistor to the MAF.

Re: SES on, runs BETTER?

why challenge yourself when a scan is so easy. It's like trying to figure out 12,281 x 14.268 in your head, instead of using a calculator or a pen and pencil, kinda silly and it gives you a headache.

Re: SES on, runs BETTER?

just let me know what ends up being the cause. it you spend too much tim fiddling with it, you may inatvertantly correct the fault that tripped the ses light. Although the code will still be in memory, you might not know exactly the condition that caused the better performance. please keep us posted.

Re: SES on, runs BETTER?

Crap. Started it up today to go somewhere, light is off and it's back to it's old self. nothing wrong with that, but I really wanted to see what was going on.

Sorry blake...I'll still retrieve the code and try to backtrack and see what happened. maybe I can duplicate it somehow.
