Anybody found the trunk leak fix yet ?
Hi all ya all
Many thanks for all the info here on the site, keeps my son's lumina running fine (along with speedway auto salvage ..... right Jeff ? ) 1992 Euro 3.1, 4-door. We've all read about, and some of us experience the ongoing trunk leak issue when it rains. I and others have searched high and low to fine the leak source... with no luck ? Anybody out there found the source yet ? I've resealed and reglued all my options ??? Thanks, Stan |

I thought it was usually the rear window

Re: Anybody found the trunk leak fix yet ?
Most of the references I've read for frustrating trunk water leaks turned out to be either rear window seal, or taillight pass-through holes.
I can't remember if I suggested it before, but my body shop bud says the best way is to get in the trunk, close it and have your assistant drench the car with a hose while you look around with a flashlight. Personally, the potential for practical joking is just too high for me to get in there I'll be the hose man, thank you. Some flourescent dye like you add to coolant to find difficult leaks under blacklight would work great, but the volume required to soak the whole back of the car might be prohibitive.

Re: Anybody found the trunk leak fix yet ?
The reason nobody ever finds the trunk leaks on the 1st gen luminas, is becuase their pretty much hidden. The actual leak is coming from the trunk seams, where they were welded together and filled with bondo from the factory. With age, it falls apart and lets the seam leak water into the trunk. I know this because it does this on all of the three luminas that I own. I've tried removing all the old bondo, grinding it down and re-filling it and painting it, but for some reason the trunk still leaks at those seams. It's a very hard place to repair properly so I've just taken it as a loss and I don't have a system in the trunk because of this.
