PrbLM With 3rd GEar

I have a 1992 civic si, and for some time now, everytime I try to get into third gear, my gears grind like crazy, that some times I feel sorry for the gears and I'm scared to push it into third gear, but when the car is cold like early morning starts the gear doesn't grind in third gear OOH yeah also when I'm about to switch to third gear, and I wait for the RPM to drop down to idle and then switch gears to third it won't grind ?


I was wondering if anyone else had that problem and is there a way to fix the problem ?

Syncros. Everyone I know that has had a civic, that drives ethe sh1t out of it has had problems with the third gear synchrosat one point or another. I had the same prob in my 99. I just replaced the tranny because it ended up being cheaper to do that than just the synchros. Fo rmy car they told me you couldn't just order the synchros, you had to order all the gears and synchros in one package. So I got an old Si tranny. I like this gearing better now though, so it worked out great.:frog:

yep synchros...thats happend to my bfs 2nd gear on his tiburon and they had to rebuild the whole tranny.. that set him back a couple grand.but since you have a civic you can probably pick one up easily..tiburon parts arent as easy to come by as civic parts .thats the good thing about having a car that everyone has

what you can do till you fix the problem is to double clutch. if you double clutch then you wont use your syncros.

well either way your tranny is messed up so you just cant shift hard into third which sux cuz 3rd gear is the best..! so do what you want but it will not do anything to correct your problem. the prob with my bfs car was that whichever shop messed with the clutch dislodged a bearing and the problem eventualy tricked down to the tranny something along those lines...his didnt really grind thoug it was more of a buzzing sound
