Gran Turismo Concept
This is not news, but I don't see a thread for it in the Gran Turismo forum, so I will add it here.
Looks like Japan is getting lucky again, this time in the the form of a video game, the New Year's Day release of "Gran Turismo Concept", a game based on the GT3 platform, but designed to allow the player to virtually own cars which may never be released to the public. The number of cars will be limited to specialty, concept, and certain race cars. Currently 30 have been announced including the Nissan GT-R Concept, the Suzuki GSX-R/4, and the Honda Dualnote. Tracks will also be limited to possibly 5, including Tokyo R246, Midfield, Swiss Alps, and Tahiti Maze (also type "II" mirrored tracks). The gameplay will be only functional through "Arcade Mode" and cars will not be allowed to be garaged, or modified. There is some type of license testing, but it is not required to race; it's more of a personal challenge to define your skills and receive advice. Since the game is a more of a sideshow until GT4 comes out, it will be priced less, at around $26. There are still no plans of releasing it in the U.S. The specs of the game here are not final and could be different (more/fewer cars or tracks). Current car list: Daihatsu Copen Honda Civic Type R Honda Integra Type R Honda Fit Honda NSX-R Honda Loctite Mugen NSX Honda Mobil 1 NSX Honda Dual Note Mazda RX-7 Type R Bathurst R Mazda RX-8 Mazda Atenza 5HB Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VII Rally Car Prototype Mitsubishi C23 Tarmac Nissan R34 Skyline GT-R M-spec Nissan GT-R Concept Nissan GT color R34 GT-R Nissan Pennzoil Zexel GT-R Nissan Xanavi Hiroto GT-R Nissan Fairlady Z Nissan Skyline 3-GT Nissan Primera 20V Subaru Impreza WRX STi Prodrive Style Suzuki GSX-R/4 Toyota Altezza Gita AS200 Toyota Soarer 430SCV Toyota Castrol Tom's Supra Toyota Au Cerumo Supra Toyota WiLL VS Toyota Pod Toyota RSC Interesting tidbits: The Honda Dual Note has a special meter on the instrument panel in the game, which displays the remaining power for the electric engine. The power is almost like a nitrous boost which runs out after flooring it for a while, but unlike nitrous, quickly gets recharged after closing the throttle for a bit. The Toyota Pod concept is the automotive equivalent of today's hot robot toys, and features a "face" which can light up to different colors, depending on how it's treated. Currently, it is not known which of the real world conceptual features are actually in the game, but some screenshots give away both the red face (angry, possibly from collision) and blue face (fatigue, possibly from hard driving). |

Honda's concept, known as the Dual Note, is powered by a 3.5 V-6 i-VTEC for the rear wheels AND an electric front-wheel-drive system, linked with the Prelude Type-SH's ATTS, good for a maximum 400 hp to all four wheels:

Mash together two Suzuki GSX-R750s, and you get the GSX-R/4. Think Honda makes motorcycle-like cars? Take this thing for a test drive.

Yeah, do you guys get to play Japanese games on your PS2s? Do your machines have their own area? Or do you get the European stuff?

Were zone 4, im not sure if thats the same as Japan or not. I know its the same as Ausie and most of the pasfic, and quite differnt from europe. (we have the PAL version of GT3 A-spec)
But we do get a lot of games not sold in the US, and I was talking to my mate the other day and he was pretty sure he would be selling GT Concept at some point this year.
