BMW520i - Locked out problem

I have an F Reg 520i, manual. battery is flayt as can be and the central locking has gone kaput.
I've managed to loop a cord over the pull up button. It won't pull up.
I've tried holding the key to open and trying the door handle repeatedly.
I've removed the front plastic grills and headlight surrounds amiss a few creaks and cracks. Nothing, I cannot find any bonnet mechanism.
Tempted to try a good house brick supplier.
Where on earth is the mechaism or is there another way in ?
Please help, I'm desperate.
I have another car thank god but I want to drive my lovely BM

Here's a link to a website that may help you get back in your car. The procedure looks to be for US spec cars, so if yours is right hand drive, some of the steps may need to be for the opposite side. Good luck!
