Talking gas gauge stuck at 1/2

My gas gauge on my 1997 Escort is stuck at 1/2 no matter how much gas is in it? Is it the sender, and where can I find it?

Re: gas gauge stuck at 1/2

The sending unit is in the gas tank.

To check the sending unit put the test leads of an ohmmeter on the sending unit terminals and check the resistance. Use the 200-ohm scale on the ohmeter. With the float in the lowered position (Fuel tank empty) resistance should be about 22 ohms. With the float raised (Fuel tank full) the resistance should be about 145 ohms. The resistance should change smoothly as the float is moved. If the readings are incorrect replace the sending unit.

There's a 10 amp meter fuse in the passenger fuse block. It controls the temperature gauge, too, so if the temp gauge works the fuse is probably all rightl.
