Uh Oh!!!!!!!!!!
About a week or so ago I was checking the fluids and doing a routine overall wear and tear check. Oil was ok. But trans dip stick was almost rusted in the hole. So I Started the truck pushed in the E-Brake, Put it in Drive and checked the Trans fluid. There was like a drop at the very end of the stick. So I added about 4 ounces. Everything seemed ok but I noticed that every time I stopped and parked there was Tranny fluid on the ground. Diddn't start leaking until I added that damned 4 ounces. What now??? Did I blow some sort of seal?? if so where?? Oh my god. If its not breaking on its own Im breaking it.
Hit me back if ya have N E input. Or just to say hi. btw Ive been away 4 a while so Hello 2 every 1. |

Re: Uh Oh!!!!!!!!!!
Well the easiest thing to check would be to peak underneath to see if it is coming from the transmission or the transmission cooler lines.

Re: Uh Oh!!!!!!!!!!
Check around the gasket too, the leak might be from there and when its up to the correct level it leaks out. Otherwise the fluid is below the leak level when its low

Re: Uh Oh!!!!!!!!!!
You check the fluid level in park, not in drive.

Re: Uh Oh!!!!!!!!!!
The thing is, you checked the tranny fluid in drive and not in park.
The level was probably fine but in park, the fluid is directed towards its needed hydraulic systems and out of the pan. Now that you have it in park, the tranny is overfilled seeing that fluid you added overfilled it once the fluid came back into the pan when you took it out of drive.

Re: Uh Oh!!!!!!!!!!
I did something similar, but checked the Trans fluid when it was cold and looked at the deep stick and it showed low, but was actually at the full cold mark. So I added fluid drove it around and checked it again when the engine was hot and it showed way over full so I knew I was gonna damage the Trans if I left it so I ran to the auto parts store and bought a fluid pump and removed the overfill before I caused any damage to my Trans.
I hate to say it, but I bet you blew a seal from all the extra fluid not having anywhere to go, but out. Did I mention I did this in -6 weather? LoL |

Re: Uh Oh!!!!!!!!!!
Good to see you again Girlbear ; Hows the boy? I worry that you have been checking it in drive also . Park or neutral and warm is the proper way to check it . Did you add 4 ounces or quarts . These trannies hold around 10 quarts . At least mine does . Overfilled will push it out somewhere . Posible that your vacuum switch on the transfer case has a line cracked and the fluid is coming from there . Thats where I lost mine . Rob
