SC on an H22a
I'm buying a 94 accord pretty soon, probably next month and I'd just liek to ask some questions. I am planning an H22a swap. I've pretty much decided to supercharge it because I want to be able to remove it easily to get smog checked and shit, and I want to save some money. Also, I hear that the h22a's arent great for lots of boost, so thats why i wont get a turbo. I just want to know about how much will this reduce the gas mileage and also what are a few good superchargers for it. Also, does anybody know the weight difference between the lx coupes and the lx sedans?

Well, I don't know a whole helluva lot about it, but maybe can help a little. First off, the only SC that i know for H22 is Jackson Racing. They run about 6 PSI stock which is no prob for an h22. You could upgrade to a smaller pulley (9 or 10 PSI?) for a couple bucks. You would defintely have a torque monster engine in that.
A couple things to think about: A) An H22 will weigh more, especially with a supercharger, so you'll lose some weight distribution and increase understeer. B) I've heard an occasional horror story about JRSC's. Make sure you have a good dealer that you can trust to fix it, if it happens to start leaking oil or snapping belts and so on. Plus side is you have around 230-250 hp at the wheels. Makes for a quick car.

I was thinking about a turbo first, but there are a few reasons why a SC would be better. The H22a isn't made for mega boost and also there's the CA emissions bs. The SC would be cheaper and easier to remove when I get the car smogged. Also, I thought the H22a understeer wouldnt be too bad on an accord, thought it would be on the civic.

do NOT go over 8psi on stock internals. just take my word for it. my gas mileage on my blown lude hasn't been affected that greatly. i have noticed that a full tank won't take me as many miles as before but not a big deal. i have no problem with understeer (i have the type SH where there's virtually no understeer to begin with, not anymore noticable with the supercharger) one problem you'll have is just gettin traction. with the added torque from the jrsc, you'll pretty much have to relearn how to launch your car right coz you can't launch it the way you can naturally aspirated. all you'll do is sit still spinning the tires. trust me, i've lost races i should have easily won if was able to grip.
it seems to be hit or miss with the jrsc. there'll be half of the people having no problems, myself included. while the other half can't seem to avoid them. anything from a bent pulley to an oil leak. as long as you get it installed right, you're not detonating, get it tuned you should be alright. jackson racing claims 234whp for the prelude with a good i/h/e setup. i've only dynoed my car once and i put down 225whp, that's untuned at 7psi. most jrsc luders will dyno around the same, some less others more. that's good enough for a high 13 second 1/4 mile though. tuned, i should be well over the 230 mark. put in a 9psi pulley, you should be able to get 265ish hp to the wheels. jrsc luders who have upgraded their boost to 9 psi claim low 13's in the 1/4 mile. you can even send the blower itself to endyn and have it rebuilt to handle up to 14psi. i've heard of luders doin this and they claim over 300whp. but like i said before, before you do that, build up your engine. the h22 is known for busting under heavy boost on stock internals. unfortunately, you don't have any other choice for superchargers for the h22. and about the 9psi pulley, jackson racing doesn't manufacture it. there's an independent manufacturer that produces a 9psi pulley for around $140. if you need the number, let me know and i'll see if i can dig it up. |

Thanks for the info on the jrsc luders, but does anybody have any info/stories for h22a swappers in 94-97 accords?

A guy I know around here had a jrsc h22 in a 1999 accord coupe, along with h/e. He ran an 8.5 in the 1/8 at the track. (the nearest 1/4 is 2hrs away). and he was spinning tires almost ALL the way down the track. Last I heard he was selling it and buying a turbo, as a matter a fact.
