2.3 or 2.4?

Well it sounds like I'm taking high performance enging building this summer and I want to build a new motor for the talon but I cant decide what I want to do. I know for sure I want to go with bigger displacement but I cant decide between a 2.3 storker or a 4g64 bottom end, any input on which would be a better way to go? Either way I want to have everything forged and basically a bullet proof motor. I'll be doing ALL of the work myslef, including machiening so which way would be cheaper in parts and or which would hold up better?

Re: 2.3 or 2.4?

WEll... The 2.3 has a longer RPM range, which is what turbos like... But then again, the 2.4 will have more displacement... which turbos like... so as i said before...

Re: 2.3 or 2.4?

I'd go 2.3 stroker. The 4g64 takes a bit of customization to get into the engine bay and the 4g63 head on top right? I dont think the .1 L of displacement is worth it.

Re: 2.3 or 2.4?

I would go with the 2.3 liter if it Revs a thousand or more higher than the 2.4. The higher you can rev the less shifting you need to do.

Re: 2.3 or 2.4?

Revs wont be different, the crank and rods are the same Unless you do a longrod 2.4. In the end they are really the same thing. The stroke is the same, and the bore can be the same (2.0 block at 060 over). A 2.4 is really on a 2.35 rounded up as well. Same thing IMO. Only real reason I see for going through the trouble of getting the 2.4 block in is the long rod option...

I didn't know that, I guess it would be better to get the 2.4 block. Im not trying to hijack this thread but: Kevin what are your thoughts on the 2.1 destroker?

Re: 2.3 or 2.4?

I think the 2.1 is a great idea for a drag race car, as long as you can get a tranny that shifts at high rpm to take advantage of it's ability to rev. It would also make the same power with less torque, so the drivetrain should be a little happier than with a full stroker. You still get 5% more displacement/airflow, which is nice. Not a bad option. But again, if you are going to go through the trouble of installing the 2.4 block, you might as well do the long rod 2.4 which will still rev much better than a regular 2.3 and get 20% more displacement and airflow. Then shifting is less of an issue, but keep the drivetrain together might be. As usual with these things, it's a tradeoff and you have to chose based on the overall theme of the setup.
