shooting for 300

whats up. I am just purchased a 96 prelude. I believe it has an h22 under the hood. I want to know what is the best route to 300hp or beyond can, and can I do it with about 8grand. Any advice would be a big help.

Re: shooting for 300

Turbo on a stock engine will limit you to about 6-7psi, and I'd guess that would only get you to about 250 hp at the crank. For 300whp I'd guess you'd have to push about 15psi? Not possible on stock internals.

You won't be able to hit 300whp on stock internals without risking a blown engine.

Re: shooting for 300

Don't you think you'd have more than 250hp at the crank with a turbo set up and tuning? On 7 psi with some other bolt ons, i would assume you'd gain more than 50-60hp. I could be wrong, but I could swear I've seen people with stock internals getting around 250-270 whp, which is pretty close to 300hp at the crank. It all reallly comes down to tuning, because with a really really good tune, I've seen ludes pushing 8-9psi on stock internals. So I guess that's what it all comes down to, the tune.

Build the motor, turbo it, then tune.

Re: shooting for 300

First step would probably be to figure out for sure if you have an H22 or not. If you can't figure this out, you probably shouldn't turn a single bolt under that hood.

I'm not trying to be offensive, but people come in here all the time and say "what route should i take to make 300whp?" Do your research. Your first mod should be to your brain. Learn everything you can about this car. Learn if you even think it's worth it to take on this project. Learn, learn, learn. Then build.

Re: shooting for 300

You can run more than 6-7 psi on a stock engine. You can run 10-12 psi on a stock engine with an EXCELLENT tune.

i will second that.
lets remember, not all turbos are created equal.
psi can only loosly be coralated with HP.
i have seen d16y8's run 10psi.
a h22 is a much stronger engine, a little build and a little boost.

Re: shooting for 300

I have a 98 automatick lude, base model. How much of a horsepower gain would I get if I put an intake, header exhaust system on it? Or does it depend on the brand, or type of i/h/e?
