Re: 2001 Blazer new plugs & wires?!
I used the AC Delco Plats (I think you have to use them) but I went with Taylor Performance Wires (in red) intead of stock replacement. I am very happy with both. I got both items from Carquest. Paid like $100 for the wires and about $3 each on the plugs but that was with my discount from my job. I am not sure what list is on them. Make sure you read the how to provided in this forum on that one pain in the ass plug to get it out easily.

Well you can go cheap on the wires. Advanced Auto or Pep Boys will probably be able to get the wires cheap (a no name non performance style) but you should stick with the AC Delco plats. Double check your gap when you get them too. 2 out of the 6 were gapped wrong when I got mine.

Re: 2001 Blazer new plugs & wires?!
do NOT use Bosch plugs. They do NOT run well in our trucks.
Search this forum for 'Bosch' and you will see nothing but problems. Go with ACDelcos. It's worth the extra bucks. You don't want to have to do the job twice when those cheap Bosch's crap out in a year. Quote:

Re: 2001 Blazer new plugs & wires?!
No need for a lay out, just follow the wires from the cap. Only the third one is kinda hard to find and that link I provided shows you the easiest way to do it. Just use the right tools and be careful, you do not snap one off in the block trying to be in a hurry or getting frustrated. Also remeber the wiring, I did one at a time to make sure I did not mess up the firing order. Or you can label the wires as you replace them so you know which plug it goes to. That would be easy too.

Re: 2001 Blazer new plugs & wires?!
i quit reading when i seen bosch, i have a 98, and my cost (fulltime machanic cost through shop) for plugs wires cap and roter was 157, tuneups on our trucks are not cheep, sorry, the list cost on just the wires was 140 fricken bucks, if you want to do it cheep, you can, but, you will pay for it later, do it right, do it once, you (as every one else i talk with at work) are short on coin, so why pay to do it your way then pay to do it right in a month or less? the new style cap is what is hurting, they are new, and so they know that they can charge you a lot for any part of the ignition system, plat plugs, some wires from advanced auto or napa if you dont want delco, and a delco cap and roter for your tuneup (dont forget the air filter, fuel filter, pcv valve and check your end rails for wetness, almost 80k is almost 20k over due for a lower intake manifold set, if it hasn't been done yet)

Re: 2001 Blazer new plugs & wires?!
Do you really need to change the lower intake set? I am sitting damn close to 80 thousand miles myself.

Re: 2001 Blazer new plugs & wires?!
Thanks for the input on what else needs to be fixed/looked into.....
I went out and got a new battery to go along with my new plugs; I can notice the difference on startup for sure. How easy are the Fuel Filter/PCV Valve to replace yourself? I could have found a new hobby with this neglected vehicle |
