Damn!! Dry starts!!! Help!!
Well, this week we got majorly hit by extreme cold. It went down from like 35 degrees F to -29 degrees F within one freakin' day!!
I had to start the car like 3 times that day and I could feel it was running dry for like 1 minute before the oil started pumping thru. Hell, I got an Oil change yesterday (went from 10w30 to 5w30) and I put the best Oil Filter I could find (K&N Oil Filter, it's supposed to have a drain back plug or something like it) Is there anything else I can do to minimize dry starts? Thanks for the info guys.

Dude, I was running Mobil 1 Synthetic 10w30 for the whole summer and fall. I just got it switched to Mobil 1 Syn 5w30. I always use Mobil 1 in my car.

Re: Damn!! Dry starts!!! Help!!
Also I think the car was running extremely rich yesterday, because I used up 1/3 more gas than I usually do for my typical day usage.

Re: Damn!! Dry starts!!! Help!!
Guys, what I'm really worried about is how much damage I'd be causing the engine internals (Piston Rings/ Cam Bearings) by having to dry start it (maybe 30 seconds before the oil can start flowing), since I will have to use my car every day for this upcoming winter.
It looks like we're going to get some serious frikkin' cold coming our way (easily around the -30 Degree Farenheit mark) PLEASE HELP! I've done all that I can so far, is there anything else I can do? Thank you!

Re: Damn!! Dry starts!!! Help!!
get an oil pan heater! Its like a mini heated blanket for your oil pan. I think they're magnetic. Just plug it in, crawl under your car and slap it on. Let it sit for a while, and it should start up easier. Get an oil pressure gauge too.
I searched for the oil pan heater, I got a few things... This is a stick-on moroso one for $66... I couldn't find a part # for it and couldn't find it on Moroso's site, just this dieselmann place: http://www.intellidog.com/dieselmann/catalog.htm On Moroso's site I did find one that screws into a 1" NPT fitting in an oil pan(actually meant for an external dry sump resevoir, but I don't see why it wouldn't work in a normal oil pan). Go here: http://store.summitracing.com/defaul...ch%2Easp&N=100 select 'moroso' for manufacturer, and 23990 for manuf. part #. $62. It includes a 1" steel bung to weld into your pan. If you have an aluminum pan, get this one: http://store.summitracing.com/partde...ber&Ntt=23980+ |

Re: Damn!! Dry starts!!! Help!!
^^Dude, thanks for the info.
I actually already have a Block Heater, but I can only use it at home, because there's no AC Plugs at work ![]() Anyway, looks like the new K&N Oil Filter's drainback plug really does help, becuase I've noticed the difference.
