Towing my 96 eclipse gst with my 01 cherokee...need HELP!!!!
I have a 2001 Jeep cherokee sport, it has a 5000lbs hitch on it. I have a rather large problem. I need to go and get my 96 eclipse gst from my old home in NY. I live in montreal and need to drive over 6 hours to get there and another 6 back ... The eclipse is no longer registered nor plated so I have to have it attached to my vehicle to get it back here...I have been in contact with Uhaul and they have told me that the minumum weight of a towing vehicle has to be 3500lbs...the cherokee is only a little over 3200. They refuse to rent me the means to tow my car back here....What else can I do? can I do something like having my car on the ground and just pulling it with something attached to my jeep? I am out of ideas...and I have to go and get it as soon as possible!!!!

Are they trying to rent you a dolly or a trailer? With a dolly its weight plus the weight of your car should be close to 3200, not over I wouldn't think. For a trailer it's another story though. Only thing I can think of otherwise is to borrow another truck to pick up the dolly then use your Heep (don't do this for a trailer, safety first
 ).

How often do you come to NY now since you live in montreal? Why i ask is because im not to far from you. I work in Plattsburgh and i go to quebec alot to napierville dragway to run my car. Maybe we can get together sometime and cause trouble or some shit

Could you trade with a friend for his/her truck? I cannot understand why vehicle weight has anything to do with renting a tow dolly.

 Build on hold until I get a good paying job, either in school or once I get out. At that time a full tear down and complete rebuild should be in order. The Purple People Eater will ride again... January 2011 can't come soon enough.
