First, the obvious (I'm a PC tech, you'd be surprised at the number of 'my PC won't turn on' deals are related to an unplugged computer) - make sure it has gas in it! 1/4 tank, minimum. If you're sure it has gas, then:

Fuel filter, or fuel pump. Obtain a pressure gauge for this purpose, and hook it into the diagnostic port on the fuel rail. Your pressure needs to be in the 60 PSI range - I've seen these stumble if the pressure only drops to 55 PSI.

Check the filter first - it's under the car in the steel line, ahead of the fuel tank. It's the screw-on type, so make sure you use a wrench at both the line and the filter. If you put on a new filter and re-run the pressure test, and nothing changes, then you could suspect either a blockage or a bad fuel pump. Make sure the line isn't blocked anywhere (kinked and/or bent steel lines, kinked flex lines). If there is no obvious blockage, then you will have to drop the fuel tank (CAUTION - do this with the tank mostly empty [a lighter tank reduces the possibility of spills] and have a person nearby with an ABC fire extinguisher!) to get to the fuel pump assembly (it's contained in the assembly with the float for the gauge). Once removed, first check that the 'sock' hasn't come off or has become plugged.

Yes, those things whine like turbojets.
