Angry Can it be the EGR???

Here's my problem in a nutshell:

First:
Sometimes it will take one click of the ignition (turn if the ignition key) to start the car. Most of the time it will take more than one. If the car dies while driving it will take over 10 clicks to get it running.

Second:
Car will cut off. It use to be fine after driving for 15 min. Then it would be fine after sitting for 5 minutes while running. Then... it would be fine after keeping my foot on the gas for a minute or so. Now... those things really don't work.

Sometimes the car will be great. Then out of no where it will cut off, esp. when I'm about to start off from a red light or turn a corner. That's when it will take 10-15 min of key turning to get the car started. When it starts it will die as soon as I take my foot off the pedal. I have to keep it on there for at least 5 min until it's safe for me to drive where I have to go.

My car is a "W" 1993 s10 4wd Blazer. I've been told two things: the spider for the intake manifold needs fixing/replacement and 2. the EGR needs replacing.

I've already accepted the fact I'm gonna have to shell out alot of money. Can anyone concur with the info? I appreciate your knowledge.

Re: Can it be the EGR???

Welcome to the forum, I hope we can help you with your problem.

If the "Service Engine Soon" lght is on, check the codes and diagnose appropriately. If the EGR valve is stuck open, the engine will generally start right up but have poor idle quality or will not idle at all, and the SES light will be on. The symptoms you're indicating point more to a failing fuel pump, which will not turn the SES light on. Check fuel pressure and leak down and post back the results.

Re: Can it be the EGR???

I agree, that sounds more like a fuel pump than anything else.

Re: Can it be the EGR???

I agree it does sound like a fuel problem - But the ses or check engine light does not always come on when your EGR valve is meesing up, I just learned this one for myself. Thought you might like to know !

Red face Can it be the EGR???

Thanks for your replies.

I forgot to mention the car when idle makes a rrrrrrrrrRRRRRRRrrrrrrrrrrRRRRRRRRrrrrrrrrrrr (a soft to loud sound). Sometimes when I restart the car after cutting off it goes RRRRRRR loud for a moment as if I had my foot on the accelerator.

No one had ever mentioned that the fuel pump maybe the problem in quite some time. Even at RS Strauss!

For my car, which I described in my previous posting, would the fuel pump in the the fuel tank or elsewhere? Electric or no?

Oh yeah... are there any places where they give free computer diagnostics? And what about the location of the fuel pump. That can help me estimate how much it may cost for me to this fixed.

Thanks Again, You Guys Are Really Nice.

Re: Can it be the EGR???

First do like previosely posted and check fuel presure to make sure this is your problem, if the pressures are not right then change the fuel pump it should be in the fuel tank.

Re: Can it be the EGR???

You can search for the correct procedure to check fuel pressure in this forum. I would find it for you but I'm late. The fuel pump is electric and in the tank. Let us know the results.

I had two problems with my 93 S10 Blazer.

After I replaced the "spider" and "nut kit", the car wouldn't start because I had a bad (weak) fuel pump. Your problem has the same symptoms that I had because of the fuel pump problem. Try replacing the fuel pump first, if you have fuel pressures that don't meet specs. In your case, the fuel injection might be alright. Mine wasn't because I was blowing black stuff all over the driveway and got about 5 miles per gallon. Check the following one of my posts and some others that might have applicable information.

Re: Can it be the EGR???

CPI spider needs to be replaced along with the nut kit. Use the search to find more information or check out the FAQ thread.

That noise is more than likely caused by the fuel pump modulating to keep pressure up when the spider's fuel pressure regulator is leaking.
