Question Interior lights won't go out on Olds 1995 98

I have a 1995 Olds 98 and my interior lights wouldn't go out and caused the battery to drain..... I pulled the fuse and that solved the problem but I'd like to fix it.... The passenger side door seems to have a latching problem... It closes and secures but does not have that spring feel when opening..... If your opening from inside people think it is not unlocking but you only have to push on it to open.... like I said it does secure but does not have same feel as rest of doors.... Is the latching mechanism tied to the internal light switch?? The part is $85.00 at the local dealer and non-returnable once installed.... Is there a way to check old part?? So I can make sure this is the problem??

Is there a droop in the door? It sounds like the bushing may be worn, This could be causing the light switch to stay on.

there does not appear to be a droop in the door.... I took it by a body shop and they checked for the droop and it didn't seem to move at all... is the (activator???) which is part of the latch responsible for triggering the interior lights?

Does anyone know what part is responsible for turning on and off the interior lights when the door is opened or closed?

Yeah, there is a little switch in the door jam that controls them, maybe it shorted out.

Re: Interior lights won't go out on Olds 1995 98

the lights in mine would stay on as well, but I also noticed that my drivers side door was not locking/un-locking by the electronic switches. A quick removal of the door panel and I found out that the latch assembly was actually broken in half, the latch still worked, but the electronics (which included the door closed switch) was broken off.

I un-plugged the wire to that, and it solved my problem, I can't use the electric door lock on that door, and the lights don't come on when it openes, but at least my battery doesn't drain...

My 98 is a 1991, so I don't know if yours has a switch, or if it's integrated into the latch like mine.
