largest tire size for 16" aluminum wheels

Hi all, the time has come to get my rodeo some new tires...I want her to look a little more aggressive so I've decided to add larger tires, but im not sure what the largest size I can get without rubbing...Im thinking of getting yokohama geolander AT II's in p255/70. Im not too sure yet though. What do you guys think is the widest I can go? 265?

Do you guys think i can add 30"s?
let me know what your experinces have been....

I'm running 265/75 16's on my '97 Rodeo in the Yokohama Geolander AT's.

You can easily run 30-32" sizes on the 1st generation Rodeo's.

Really??? 32's on a stock rodeo? wouldn't that cause massive rubbing?
keep in mind I have the stock 16" aluminum wheels....I dont know if I would be able to run 32's without a lift.

if you stumble across some 32's with a price that can't be beat...just get a 1" body lift. this will help some rubbing issues.

30's might be a milder option for you, depending on what kind of wheeling you want to do.

also keep in mind, the width of the tire could be an issue. check back spacing

well, I do some light off-roadin...nothing to harsh. I want bigger tires mostly for looks. I just came across a great deal...4 P265/70 yokohama geolander AT II'2 installed for 515 out the door. I havent been able to find anything cheaper for tires of that size, so I might just take this deal up. I want to eventually add 32's but thats further down the line, after I get a calmini 3" lift.

Really! I AM running 32's without a lift AND with OEM steel 16x6 wheels on a '97 Rodeo with nothing added to the suspension - I don't have any rubbing, as far as I'm aware of

One thing to consider when upping tire sizes. If you only upgrade 4 tires your spare is going to ge be significantly smaller than the rest. This may or may not be an issue depending on when you might need it. For example, if you have a tire failure while wheeling and need to use it you'e not going to be able to put it on the front and still use 4WD since it will cause binding. This isn't an issue in 2WD but then again you know what Murphy says.

wow...i would have thought rubbing would be an issue on stock rodeos, but I thought your were running 265/70's?

yeah...Im only getting 4 right now, but im planning on buying the spare in a couple of weeks...

I'm running 265/75's right now, but would actually like to go back to 265/70's as they will be lighter.

Personally, if you're looking at the Geolander A/T's in the 265/75's that's one heck of a heavy tire for the 175hp 3.2L that you have.

I have the 190hp 3.2L with these tires, and it's fine on flat/mild inclines, but with a steep hill, they can be pretty darn heavy to turn.

These tires weight in at 50# a peice.

im actually going for the yoko 265/70's...I read you other thread about which tire you were thinking of getting...do you know about how much the 265/70's weigh in at?
im thinking of increasing my HP actually. Im just not sure as to how to go by it...I just started athread on that...

38# a piece. Only thing is, is they don't look nearly as aggressive as the LT265/75's as the tread depth is a lot less.

HP isn't the ONLY issue, if you have an automatic, bigger tires will put a strain on that too.

hmmmm, I guess i'll stick to the 265/70's than....I have auto tranny as well. too bad they dont look as aggressive, but oh well..i'd rather scrifice looks than performance...

agressive looking tires are always going to be heavy. that's the down point.

there are a few dick cepek/ mickey thompson's that are between 40-50 pounds. they are on the lighter side of things.

is that the totalwieght of the tire; rim and all?
BTW, does anyone know how much the stock aluminum wheels that came on 94 LS's weigh in at?

Lighter then steel

Found a great deal on a set of alloy wheels of a '94 Rodeo, going to look at them tomorrow - guy only wants $100 for all 5. We'll see.
