socketing ecu
im getting dsm link for mt 95 and my mechanic that knows how to socket said i might not even need to. since i have an eprom ecu (i think) he said thinks i dont need to, that it can already take the dsmlink... is he right? do i need to socket or do i need to just get the dsm link? thanks

unless it's been socketed, it will need to be. DSMLink will do it very cheap though.

you could technically not socket and desoldier the old eprom and then soldier the new one in place if your good with a soldiering iron. But if you ever want to change that again I'd definately socket it. It makes it really simple to pull out the old chip and pop in a new one.

Dont be so cheap and send it out to DSMLINK and get it done right the 1st time
 j/k man but serious some cutting corners just does not pay and this is one of them.

DSMlink sends out updated chips on occassion, so not having a socketed ECU would be a pretty serious limiter. Dave Mertz at DSMlink does it for like 30 bucks, and not only can you trust his work (many valuable ECUs have been ruined by people that think they are good at soldering
) but he will also inspect the ECU for other damage (these ECUs are all at least 11 years old now!!) and bench test it for functionality. You have to wait for the chip anyway, so it's only adding the time it takes them to get your ECU. They turn them around the same day in almost every case. I can't see any good arguement to not have DSMlink do the socketing....

I sent mine to Dave Mertz with a certified check for $38 ($8 for return shipping).. Took 7 days to get there, and 2 days to come back... I live in Wahington State!
