Urgent Help Needed!!

Okay so i have a 1989 750iL that i acquired from someone. It ran fine for a while but my dad started noticing some problems. He found out that i needed to change the water pump. We changed that then heard a loud ticking noise. changed the tensioners now sounds much better. But the car runs really hot. THe person who gave me the car said that it usually ran around 1/2 but now it runs around 3/4 sometimes more. Any ideas on how i can fix this or what could be wrong? What type of coolant should be used? thanks so much.

Re: Urgent Help Needed!!

I had a 1988 750 until last May (sold it) however we need more info on the running hot issue. It could be that the coolant needs to be bled, but most of our 750s are self bleeding ( mine was). Does she overheat at idle and at speed or just at idle? If she overheats at idle only, I would suspect the fan clutch needs to be replaced. As to coolant, I used ZEREX G-05, it is the product used by Mercedes, Volkwagen, Audi and is available at PEP Boys, Auto Zone to name a few. With the factry thermostat the temp gauge needle should sit about one needle width to the right of 12:00 O'Clock (195 degrees "F").

Re: Urgent Help Needed!!

I am thinking that if ya changed the water pump ya better change the thermostat at the same time. Look into that...

Re: Urgent Help Needed!!

So was it the fan motor, fan resistor, or fan temp switch?

Re: Urgent Help Needed!!

bmwchika,
try the link below. I'm not sure if it directly has information on door panels but there are many other links within this link with a wealth of information, which may be helpful.

Good luck!!
