Question Simple Question about Rotors and Pads

I have changed pads before but not on my '95 Camaro Z28. I am replacing my rotors and pads but cannot figure out how to take both off. I dont think i have to remove the caliper do i? There are two bolts behind the caliper, do i just take a Hex Tool and unscrew that and i will losen the pads and rotors? i bought a hex tool with 9 pieces and none of them fit, do i have to go to an auto store and get a special piece to take these off? Sorry for the stupid question but i have no idea what piece i am supposed to use to take these apart. I have tried every hex tool and they are either too small or too big. Thanks for any input you guys here can give me, would really appreciate it.

Re: Simple Question about Rotors and Pads

autoparts stores have them, you just need to find out what size you need.

Re: Simple Question about Rotors and Pads

i'll see if i can sum it up good enuff...

remove the 2 torx bolts that hold the caliper to the bracket, it won't just slide off because the pads are pressed against the rotor. remove the fluid cap from the master cylinder. once you get the caliper off, don't just let it drop or hang, that can damage the brake lines, you'll wanna hang it off to the side somewhere, i usually use a metal hanger and hang it from a spring coil, as long as you don't have weight on the brake line it'll be fine. the pads you can just pull out of the caliper, but before you put the new pads in you hafta use a c-clamp to press the piston back in, do it slowly or else you'll have fluid shooting out of the master cylinder under the hood. all these steps are in the haynes manual, do you have one or no, if not I can scan the pages for you.

Re: Simple Question about Rotors and Pads

Wow. You really put alot of effort into this and it helped alot, i did have that manual but it is still at my parents. I've only had this car about a year and a half, trying to get it up to show and race quality. Slow process, but i am working on it, one more thing: If you can tell em how to post pics on here and i can show you what my car looks like as of now, i am still working on my cardomain.com site, but still tinkering around with it. It will be up soon. Thanks for all the help. Now i know why you are the president. Very knowledgeable.

Re: Simple Question about Rotors and Pads

if you host them yourself it doesn't matter what size, but .gif and .jpg are the formats you want.
