tranny problems

Im looking into buying a mazda 6 (v6) and heard about a tranny prblem with the 5 speeds. the clutches are apparently slipping. has anyone heard of this problem?

well to be honest with you, ive done several 4cyl clutches and no 6cyl clutches. but on the other hand... all the cars that had clutches worn out showed signs of abuse/aggressive driving. you know, bald front tires, worn brakes, cold air intakes, check engine lights with vehicle speeds recorded at 90+ mph.... all within 10-20k miles. take that info however you wish.....

Really? Going over 90mph truns on the check engine light?
Does the Mazda 6 have the standard diagnostic box where you can turn off such a code?

it doesnt turn it on, all it shows is evidence of agressive driving... something we use to either accept or deny warranty claims. unless you have a device that is CAN (controller area network) compatible, you cant read and clear codes on the 6

I've done 122 mph in my mazda 6 , have a Injen cold air intake and a custom monza exhaust and my warranty is still valid for another 45,000 miles =)

Anyways, If a clutch is fried, It's been beaten. If you're worried about OEM parts, Buy a aftermarket stage 2 clutch and be done with the clutch thing for good. That doesn't mean beat the living hell out of the car either =P

I have 04 Maz 6s Hatch with a 5spd. They only warranty the clutches for 12k. I got my first one replaced at 28900+-. I then made it to 37300+- and had to have another put in. The later was because the main tranny seal blew which then coated the clutch in oil. Other than these things, I have had no problem with my car. I have had her since April 26, 2004 and have right at 39000 miles....I love it!

lemon law does not apply. You have to have a problem that happens for the same reason atleast 3 times within the initial 36k. Since the clutches are only warrantied for 12k, they are not covered under the lemon law.

Mazdatech is blowing smoke up your... If they denied warranty under the excuse of "excessive speed" they'd be sued out of existence in short order. The only way that could be enforced, if the car had a speed limiter and that would be inactivated by the owner, plus(!) a specific note to that effect in the warranty documents. If the car is capable of the speed out of the factory "as is" then the warranty is enforceable. Local speed limits (if any) are irrelevant.
