I have 3 questions about my 85 chevy 4x4; thanks!
Hello all.
Two questions on my 85 chevy 4x4 1. I noticed today that the hubs (while locking them) seem to have a little play. The hub feels loose, not real loose. One is tighter than the other. What needs to be done? 2. My front driveline (4x4) front u-joint feels to have play, does this mean it needs to be replaced?. Could this cause any vibration while driving down the road in 2 wheel drive? I ask because I have vibration at higher speeds 35+ mph. In other words does the front drive line turn at all when in 2 wheel? Thank you. The Rev. AC |

There should be some allen head screws on your hubs.. try and tighten them. You may need to put some locktight on them so they don't come loose again. As for your u-joint.. you should replace it, your front differential and driveshaft will turn if your transfer case is still in four-wheel drive and will cause vibration.

I thought the late 80s chevs didnt have locking hubs...My 81 just has the 4wd gearshift that engages 4wd.

I still have vibration at 40+ mph. Someone told me that one of the tires may have separtated inside, causing the vibration; the u-joints feel tight. Good day! |
