Angry green anti-freeze

I have a 96 Camaro that I sold about two months ago. The second week the guy had it he called me wanting his money back because the car wouldn't start. I had triple A tow it to my house and the first thing I saw was green anti-freeze all over the rad. The battary was dead, so I hooked another up to it (brand new) and it started---once--- and sounded AWFUL...the worst I have ever heard, and then the car died and the battary was DRAINED. No more starts, or turn overs. I have replaced the anti-freeze several times in my car and the first thing I learned was to use the orange and no other..What has happened to my car? What can I possibly do to repair it, if anything? Please help or suggest...Thank You

Re: green anti-freeze

I thought you weren't supposed to mix the two different types of anti-freeze. As for the battery being drained, how long did it run while hooked up to the new battery? The Alternator might be bad, that might explain it take it to an auto parts store and they should be able to test the alternator for you, usually they do it for free. My last question is, are you a car salesman at a auto dealer because why would you give the guy his money back? Here in MN unless you buy a car from a dealer there is no garuantee once you pay, it's yours...

Re: green anti-freeze

Could be a blown head gasket, don't think the type of antifreeze is really gonna matter. For that matter u can run straight water in it and it will run. Check for leaks and do a compression check. If you sold the guy a car and he wants his money back, just tell him your not a dealer, as is no warranty. In other words kiss my @$$, lol.

Re: green anti-freeze

Green antifreeze has something in it(I wanna say electrolytes, but may be wrong) that conducts electricity. Basically you'll need to drain it, get it flushed out GOOD, and refill it with new stuff. I'm guessing it's shorted against something and is draining the battery while causing a misfire or something like that. So basically check to see if the radiator is holding ANY voltage at all. We had a car that this happened to in my automotive class at school.

edit:

There's a bit of information on it...

electrolysis is the word I was trying to think of

Re: green anti-freeze

When we started the car it started and ran for about 10 seconds and the battary was immediatly drained and it would not start again. The sound was like the moter had a really hard time staying started, like it was missing and then like it wouldnt get any gas and then it died. It reminded me of a car i had one time that once you turned it off you had to wait a few seconds for it to completly turn off, like the carberator had fuel stuck in it. We tried to start it again and it wouldn't do anything. He told me that he put the antifreeze in it because it didn't have any, but you really can't see the orange anti-freeze because its not a glowing orange, it turns kind of brown. I remember thinking the same thing when I first changed the anti-freeze. Anyway he said he had the alternator checked and it is ok. He also told me that a mechanic put the antifreeze in it, but I think that a mechanic would know what to put in it, especially since it has the instructions right on the radiator. Even I knew and I'm by far no mechanic. Someone told me that green anti-freeze coats the moter or something and is permanant, where the orange is not. I guess I am going to pull the moter out an put in a racing moter. BTW, I didn't give the guy his money back, I told him since he ruined it he can take me to court if he wants his money, I haven't heard from him again.

Re: green anti-freeze

I wouldnt do any work to it if I were you. Did he agree to just give the car back to you? Is the car in your name again? If not, I wouldnt do anything to it, other than take pics of it inside and out and write down the differences from when the car left your posession to when it came back so you have it incase he tries to take you to court.
Did you know the number one get ritch quick trick is suing other people?!? Just FYI

Re: green anti-freeze

Well, the best thing to do IS GET RID OF THE DEX-COOL (the orange stuff)!!!!! It has a tendency to gum up if you don't properly maintain the system. You can flush out your radiator using a radiator flush then refill it with the green. The old green anti-freeze was basically made out of recycled chemicals which is why you can't mix it with the orange but, the new blend is all new chemicals and can blend with any type of anti-freeze including the orange. There also seems to be a current draw coming from somewhere but, that can't be determined over the internet.
