01 Tahoe LT w/ Positrack...78,000K with 100K of GMPP (or till 12/06)
I gave up on the drum in hat P-brake because nobody wants to fix a brake for free, even though as the TSB notes its about a bad retainer clip but... Had rear rotors and drums put on in PA last year. One move to midwest and 13K later the calipers are locking up and the pads are trash. Dealorship told me one month ago the same rotors were beyond discard...odd they were never resurfaced? Fronts are still OE. I check proportioning on a safety lane. Higher in back but complies with spects on three other Tahoes. OK fine, "I'll order the parts and put them in myself, maybe upgrade to slotted right?". I check the part number to cross for thickness and diameter from the last breakjob and oh wait this is for one without Positrack, a different GVWR...THEY INSTALLED A 325mm x 20.5mm ROTOR WHEN THEY SHOULD HAVE PUT IN A 330mm x 30mm ROTOR!!! Alas the calipers were overextending as the pads broke down Oh it gets better!!! The dealer here in Chicago had said they were "beyond discard". I pulled the wheel today to verify the sizing flub (verified) and low and behod the rotors ARE STAMPED WITH "18.5 mm DISCARD" RIGHT ON THE FRONT AND CURRENTLY MEASURE 19.72!!!!!! Basic tech training says to rely on the stamped rotor for discard thickness, had someone seen this they could have caught the discrepancy instead of allowing the caliper to sieze when I'm out away from home. so... 1. who's liable? who's paying for my rear rotors? The right one's this time. 2. who do I deal with? The bad part choice was done by a PA dealer and now I'm in Chicago. 3. how do I even begin to engage this process? Chevy customer service says they can call and talk to people but they can't make anyone do anything as its between me and the dealer. Is there no reasonable person to step in and fix this? SO MAD....but somewhat smug about my detective work.

Re: 01 Rear Brake Insanity
I would say that the shop that put the wrong ones on should be liable, but being that far away now it will be almost impossible to get someone to do any thing about it. I would call the place and talk to the service manager and see if they can do something for you. Have him pull the work order and look to see what parts were put on it. If he doesn't know, most don't, tell him what the difference is and what happened when they put the wrong rotors on. That way the ball is in his court. If he won't do anything for you call gm headquaters, bbb, or maybe contact a lawyer and see what he says. Hope this helps.
