Changing Spark Plugs

I have a 2000 Jeep GC. What kind of spark plugs can I use? The ones in it are Champion but can I use Bosch Platnium? What about the boots they sit in should I replace those also?

Re: Changing Spark Plugs

do not use BOSCH, I would stick with CHAMPION or AUTOLITE, these 2 are good brands that work well in jeeps. You can get either of these brands in platinum or double platinum. Personally I would stick with the CHAMPION brand, chrysler has been using champion brand for many many moons....lol

Re: Changing Spark Plugs

I second that on the BOSCH, there not good at all. I had them in mine for a while and it just ran different i thought, so i bought new champion's and it ran better.

Re: Changing Spark Plugs

Ok so I bought Champion Platnium plugs and now when I accelerate in lugs and when I'm stopped the engine shakes or shimmys. Did I do something wrong?

Re: Changing Spark Plugs

yes go autolights. i was stupid and put bosch into my jeep engine and my oil problem fucked them up real quick. i put autolights from walmart wich were 3 bucks for a set of two and put them in. my engine ran the smothest thats its ever ran. you could put a glass of water on the engine and it wont spill. ive heard from everyone that stay with the brand of plugs that are factory recomended. if not you will fuck something up

Well that sounds kinda stupid, I don't know of any plugs that will fuck anything up in a jeep, but bosch do tend to run rough in jeeps and kills gas mileage...lol Autolites are good plugs they work well in these engines, same with the CHAMPIONS.

ndaniel7:
Check to make sure they are gapped correct, .035", and make sure they are all tight enough and the plug wires are on tight.

Re: Changing Spark Plugs

Its hard to get those boots on tight. With the coil then the boots I did what I could and it doesn't misfire or backfire so I assume they are on tight. So I put Champion in should I put autolite platnium in instead?

Re: Changing Spark Plugs

What shape are your plug wires in? The best plugs in the world won't run right with bad wires. I did the same thing on my 97 - replaced the plugs twice. Only after replacing the wires (which looked good with no obvious defects) did my problem go away.

Re: Changing Spark Plugs

I didn't change my plug wires. They didn't look like they needed to be. But there not really wires either there more like boots.

Re: Changing Spark Plugs

I use the Champion Truck Plugs for my I-6, they run nicely.

I had problems with the Autolite platinums.

I also use Bosch Plug Wires as replacements, no problems on those.

Re: Changing Spark Plugs

New Issuses:

Alright I replaced all of the plugs with new champion the ones that the Hayes manual says to put in there. I put new boots and springs on and the engine still shakes and shimmys and when I accelerate in lugs. I don't know what to do. I took out the spark plugs and looked at them the tips are white so I looked in the Hayes book and it said it was running to hot and to check the correct plug heat range, over-advanced timing, lean fuel mixture, intake manifold vacumn leaks, sticking valves and insufficient engine cooling.

Now how the hell could any of that happen when all i did was take out the old ones and put in new plugs and wires?

Re: Changing Spark Plugs

Do you still have the first set you pulled out? What # Champions were they? My Haynes says RC12ECC but what did you pull out?
