Low or no Oil pressure on cold morning starts
Anyone seen this? Last 3 cold mornings after setting outside overnite, 97 SL2 has little oil pressure when first starting up. Takes 8-10 seconds or longer for light to go off. This began after an oil and filter change last week. Is fine on most mornings and is fine for the rest of the day. Did not have this problem prior to change.
Using 5w30 and Fram filters. Is there a check-ball or something of that effect in the oil filter to keep oil from draining out when the engine is off? Could it be a bad oil filter? Thanks, Rick

your sensor could be going bad. maybe you have a clog in some passages? you park on an incline? do you use an oil additives? oil pump going bad? have you checked oil level?
another thing is, i advise staying far away from fram filters. they are made extremely bad. get wix filters. |

Oil level fine. No additives. Level ground. Don't believe its the sensor, you can hear the difference once oil pressure comes up. Could be a clog or pump, but this started almost immediately after the oil and filter change. Also, its fine until the next morning...
I've never had a problem with Fram filters, been using since new (150K plus miles), but I may have gotten a bad one...I going to change as soon as I can.

the anti-drainback on the frams are junk. they can let oil drain back to the pan or even complete break down and enter the engine. so it could be as simple as the oil filter not holding in the oil, therefore engine has to constantly prime back up.

i think the filter might b causing poor flow things happen at the fram factory just like anywhere else ya know but dont stop using fram filters ive never even heard of a wix oil filter if ur gonna switch brands go with purolator if anything......... and remember Jim Morrison Was A Genius

youve never heard of a wix filter?????? wow, probably one of the best on the market. through the forums ive been on, we have done tests on the filters. its come down to pretty much wix and purolator. some are still iffy on purolator but wix always are good filters. napa brand filters are also wix filters.

Yep, I'd get rid of the Fram too! I used to use them, I think they were better many years ago, but at least the cheap ones I'll stay away from.
It's only been a couple of oil changes since I stopped with Fram, but I do believe the oil isn't as black anymore. |

ive also got to add another reason to NEVER USE FRAM! they have or just recently stopped putting teflon in their higher end filter line. YOU DONT PUT TEFLON IN AN ENGINE! if an engine was meant to have teflon and run fine, dont you think they would start putting teflon in oils? fram is horrible, plan and simple.

Teflon: I've read an article years ago that Dupont said they didn't recommend Teflon for internal engine use. Yet Slick 50, and Fram put it in. I read an article from a motorcycle magazine, in which they dismantled an engine that used Teflon. They said the bearing looked OK, but the cylinder walls were scratched much more than they should have been. but then again, it's now found it's not even good for cookware.....
