Ball joints

Any suggestions on how to change the lower ball joints on my 2001 Ford Ranger Edge truck?

Re: Ball joints

Um, I don't really see any difference except the half shaft...what do you see as different? I mean, yea, the part numbers may be different and one has torsion bars and the other coils...but how much do you think that it will affect the R&R procedure?

Re: Ball joints

well, if it has coil springs, he would have to get a spring compressor and if it was 4 wheel drive he would need to remove half shaft nut and you have to have the hub engaged to losen the nut and on the passenger side you can just remove the camber bolts instead of removing the upper ball joint. there are alot of differances. just wanted to give specific details instead of half assed ones.

Re: Ball joints

Easy...easy...I was just asking. I guess from your post that you would remove the lower control arm to change them out...whereas I would not. In fact I just helped my friend w/ some uppers a week ago...and no problems there. Heated and pressed out the old, pressed in the new, reassembled and sent her on her way. So in my case the only big difference I see is the obstruction of the half shaft...but that's me. Sorry to ruffle your feathers my fellow Ohioan. M.
