Cleaning the Throttle Body
I’ve never cleaned my throttle body before, so I goggled it & came up with 2 different ways: 1) after disconnecting the intake spray some throttle body cleaner on the throttle plate and throat, wipe it down with a shop rag then reattach. 2) After disconnecting the intake start up the car & spray cleaner down the throttle body while the car is idling. Afterwards letting it sit for an hour or so.
Which method is right way for our Hondas? Like I said before I've never done this & I don’t want to damage my O2 sensor so if any real mechanics can help that would be great. |

Re: Cleaning the Throttle Body
The throttle body is what the air intake plugs into. It's got the butterfly valve in it. Here's a pic:
![]() I dont know why people clean it. I cant imagine it getting dirty....but i never have looked at mine. Well just pull of the black air intake hose and clean it out (if it's even dirty). |

Re: Cleaning the Throttle Body
Thanks for replying buddy.
I was sitting on my couch watching Two Guys Garage on the speed channel the other day & they were doing it to a caviler because it was throwing codes & idling rough. They explained how it gets dirty & I didn’t understand, something about an ERG valve & recirculation vapors? Anyway I was watching this & thinking "I could do this!" The most I trust my self with is oil changes & spark plugs/wires, but this I could do. I just want to get it right. So which way is the best 1) or 2)?

Re: Cleaning the Throttle Body
i would try method #1 first with the car off personally. I think there are throttle body cleaners out on the market. Just read the instuctions and do what it says. if you arent satisfied with how clean it is...then start the car and spray it in..but i doubt you'll have to do that. Have fun.
by the way it's EGR valve...not ERG. |
