car holding back, lost 30% of power..

Hi,
I have a corsa 1.0. We took it on a 50 mile trip today about 20% of that is up a 700m hill which it was fine, then when we were coming down about half way down the hill i noticed that when I accelerated a little that the car was holding back and kind of hesitating. When we came to some traffic lights and moved off the hesitation was more so and the engine sounded quite rough. When we parked the car I got out and I am sure that the petrol smell coming from the exhaust was more than it was before and its like the car has lost 30% of its power. Does anyone know what it could be?
thanks
West

Just a wild guess here. Oxygen sensor?

Wrong tosser. It was a bad sparkplug, obviously something that you lack in your brain, probably due to being stoned alot.
