b16a engine swap
i have a 1989 honda civic dx with a b16a sohc engine i am currently in the process of changing out the pistons so my engine is in pieces......i have come across a spectacular deal on a vtec engine but before i make my decision i was wondering what i would have to do to modify my car for the swap or if nothing else just use the block of the vtec and place my stock head on and be on my way but i am not sure exactly how to approach either ....... so could someone who has done this please let me know what i need to do or if it is even possible.....thanks........i have 2 days to make my decision before the vtec engine is gone.......

Re: b16a engine swap
First of all, welcome. Second, the b16 is Dohc. So until you clarify how many cams you have. We're still in the dark. But just so you know, d series (sohc and zc) and b series (dohc) do not mix and match...

Re: b16a engine swap
You mean d15b2. If you have a dx model with the round looking cover on your intake manifold then you have DPFI. You can look on the engine block right next to the tranny to see the engine stamp code to really know what you actually have in your car.
If you do have the DPFI d15b2 you will need to convert your car to MPFI. Then for the swap you'll need the b16a long block with tranny, intake manifold, exhaust manifold, ECU (PW0), custom shift linkage, 90-93 integra axles, motor mounts, etc.

Re: b16a engine swap
well unless he ment a Vtec D-series ( like a d16z6 or d16y8...) then just the block swap would be needed. I would recomend changing the whole assembly (block head and all) the good news with this swap is that the transmission you currently have you can keep, making this swap significantly cheaper.
but a MPFI conversion will be nessesairy, as well as a vtec controler of some sort. mini-me swaps are a possibility but I personaly don't recomende them, because of some past experiences with them

Re: b16a engine swap
fuck obd0 motors anymore. they are getting so old. I'll seriously never own one again. If I end up doing a swap into my current 91 si i'll be converting to obd1 and running a p30 b16...till I pick up a p72 block
![]() and if you are gonna swap in a 92+ sohc vtec motor I still recomend converting to obd1 so you can run a p28 ecu.
