1995 BMW 540i 6.2 14.8
1994 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 5.7 14.2

This is just on paper. Too many "real life" variables to be sure.

It wouldn't take much of a screw up for you to be in the 15s.

I know the chevy is probably better on paper, but I'm still putting my money on the bimmer. They're both older cars, so you don't know what little things could affect their performance, that's why I'm choosing the 540. It's really a drivers race.

Re: A race for cash...

check to see if you need a new oil filter and fuel filter first as well.. and see if you need to clean the fuel injectors.. it will be close though.. i'd say get some practice if it's your first time owning a v8 you'll need to practice your launches.

Re: A race for cash...

540's are really hard to launch, hence the high 1/4 times. I know it sounds cliche, but they are also geared for the Autobahn.

From a stop, you, and your solid axle.

From a roll to triple-digits, the 540.

Re: A race for cash...

I wouldn't put my money on anything yet, I'd want to see how both drivers do seperately before I say anything. Again, on papaer, the Camaro looks best, but like it has been said, anything can happen on the streets. LandoAWD is right. One slip up on your part will kill you, but the same goes for him.

Re: A race for cash...

I say the BMW just because of driver experience. He knows his car probably much better than you know yours. Plus he probably did maintanance on it already, if he's a good owner, so a plus for him.

... and at 10 years old, the information is not very relevant anymore.
This will be a driver's + previous owner's maintenance race.

Good luck with that ... I would consider doing basci maintenance before racing (cap, rotor, wires, oplugs, air & fuel filters) ... and some pratice

Re: A race for cash...

Why would you consider cap a basic maintenance? I always thought it was just for looks. I mean it doesn't make sense. If it doesn't leak, than it should be fine.
