Just bought My Del sol for 2,000 bucks, black, Vtec 93. The trunk leaks, the doors leak at the top near the rubber where the drain is( both sides), the drivers window rolls up to high and does't close properly under the roof, There is rust on some of the underbody, and a squeeking noise from the back drivers wheel, may be the rotor. BUT I LOVE IT! I put a cold air intake on with you directions from this site, I'm going to try and fix the leak in the trunk tonight and I like to fix stuff. I'm taking all your advice and getting 16" wheels.
Thing I need to know, What kind of 4-2-1 header sould I get? (E-bay?) there sure cheap. What sould I put in for shocks/struts? Why doesn't The delSol web sight people recommended work? Why is the sky blue? Got ya. I'll have more questions later I'm sure, hope there are plenty of answers. Thanks ALL! |

Re: Just got my 93 vtec sol, Got Questions 4u
so you have the Si model? I get confused when people call it the "vtec" model. but if its a '93 then its an si. try www.teamdelsol.com don't get a header off ebay unless it is garunteed to be a reputable brand like neuspeed or dc sports. I recommend omni power coilovers. they're expensive, but some of the best. or you could get tein.

Re: Just got my 93 vtec sol, Got Questions 4u
i purchased a set of chrome headers off ebay from a seller that ive gotten parts from before and they seem to be all gravy... havnt cracked or nathan and ive had them on for like 3 months now.. they did mutate in color, but other that they worked out for me thus far.
as far as suspension goes, i actually purchased a full set of upper, lower, front and rear strut/tie bars for my car for about 70 bucks shipped. Havnt had any problems with them and i dont even remember what it feels like without them on so... yeah.... then after that i got a pair of tokico blues and tein dress up masters -- and i likey the ride. however, if you decide to get tokico's, spring for the extra 50 bucks or whatever and get the tokico whites, simply so you can adjust the ride stiffness/softness. also, the tein's didnt drop my car that much.. id say they're just barely under stock ride height (maybe im wrong). ~kevin |

Re: Just got my 93 vtec sol, Got Questions 4u
it depends on what model you have for the ammount of drop you get too. My car is a VTEC model, which has a stiffer and lower suspension than the s or si models. I'de say that when I sold my s and got my vtec it was about 1 - 2 inches lower.

Re: Just got my 93 vtec sol, Got Questions 4u
I don't recomend Ebaying things that have a big influence on your car.. An intake isn't bad because it is just some pipe with a filter and a bung. And not to mention we have 4 bangers, thusly. Header not headers.

Re: Just got my 93 vtec sol, Got Questions 4u
if you do go ebay make sure its garunteed name brand. I got my Skunk 2 exhaust off of ebay and it was authentic. I'm happy, and I was very happy to see that it was what I paid for when I got it.

front+rear / upper+lower strut bar/tie bar combo package with special sauce:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Strut...36611053QQrdZ1 i really have no proof or no recollection of really what this combo package did for my car... however i can say that right now with this combo and the tokico/tein combo, my suspension is pretty fuggin stiff... ive been realizing it more and more on regular old bumps how much i feel it, and quite frankly cornering feels delicious and crisp like a brand new hundred dollah bill. If you're going for a comfortable ride, keep it stock and dont fuck the suspension at all (Except unless you absolutely need to purchase an aftermarket replacement for shocks and springs due to being old). out of the other products i mentioned, this is the only one that i found the purely reliable seller on... i dont even remember who i got the headers or the cold air intake from. but, i would say just do a search on ebay for "del sol cold air intake" and "del sol header" -- although ebay is not an evil place in its nature, alot of evil people dwell in its caverns... its easy to sell a cheap knock off of something that someone is looking to spend the least amount of money on.. for instance, the turbo from "ssautochrome" on ebay for the del sol is absolute pure crap that will literally break in a week.... there's been write up's on random sites and forums about the extremely low quality of their products... no i have not experienced it myself, its just a 500 turbo raises a red flag for me.. and research seems to have saved me 500 dollars and alot of anger. On to the other goodies... in my opinion the cold air option as opposed to the ram air option is alot better simply due to the fact that the colder the air you can get into your engine the better. if you have plans and aspirations of purchasing a turbo dont waste your money on a intake or headers as you will not need them when installing a turbo. also, if you're going to search and select a cold air intake or header from ebay, dont spring on the first item you see. look at all the different items from different sellers and then upon deciding which item seems manufactured the best (ie: not seeing fugly ass poor welds on a header, i dont know shit about welding, but cheap looking weld = cheaply made header = cheap piece of crap that will probably crack). and check each picture to see the thickness of the actual header piping because the thicker the better as high heat + thin metal = easier to crack. dont feel shy in inquiring with a seller for the thickness of the header and/or a picture of the thickness. when looking into a cold air intake... hmm... if you live in an area where it never ever ever rains then look for a cold air intake that is all 1 pipe (like the AEM but not 200$? i think they're bypass capable too actually), because the intakes that are separated into 2 pieces are designed for you to be able to add a bypass valve (which prevents water from getting into your engine). basically just another filter in the middle that in the event of the base of the intake sitting in water, it wont suck up the water into your engine like a straw. instead it turns the intake into a broken straw of sort, that when the filter at the base is lodged in water, it draws in air from the bypass as opposed to continue to draw air from the base only. quite frankly i didnt simply select a cold air intake or header for you to check out because for me, i wanted something particular... i wanted a red intake to match my car, and i wanted a somewhat name brand.. the person i got my cold air from claimed that it was mugen, however short of simply slapping a sticker on my intake, there was no real way for me to prove whether or not it was indeed a real mugen intake. id say if you would like some second opinions, post back the link to what you find here and maybe some of these other guys have some better, properly founded opinions then my simple speculation and experience. so yeah, thats my two cents on these items... just as a disclaimer, all of the above is only my opinion based of the knowledge and experience i have gained. i do not know if what i have stated is all or even partially correct, as i am merely a regular shmo like ya'll ![]() with that said... kick ass take names.. sometimes you get what you pay for, sometimes you get the exact same friggin thing just minus the price hike for a name brand... like buying Safeway Select cola as opposed to Pepsi... even tho the safeway select doesnt taste -as- good, it still serves the same purpose. yeee haw ~ kevin |

Re: Just got my 93 vtec sol, Got Questions 4u
oh, i completely ignored the fact that you already have a cold air intake... my bad! wasted my time but whatever... it was fun to actually take a step back and think of from a... sales perspective? lol
if you're trying to get the best product out there thats going to do the most for you, dont by the cheap crap off ebay. if you're going to buy the cheap crap off of ebay, try and make sure its the good sh1t, but simply cheaper in price if you could really care less and are simply low on dough, then you make the call... i took the above approach and really didnt spend much money at all, and its been over 6 months and everything seems gravy.oh oh oh.. one thing i forgot... dont buy one of those can of tuna exhausts off of ebay... they seriously royaly suck. most of them are extremely poorly made, and a buddy of mine purchased one that seriously fell apart. The seal on the muffler actually ripped open after a month or two with fiberflass hanging out and everything. better off with stock or simply stopping by your local muffler shop to see what they have in stock. they often have cheap alternatives to big boy exhausts that still have a better air flow then stockness. for anyone else, is it always scary giving advice? hate to feel like i steered someone the wrong way... im sure the regulars here hate my new found appearance and opinion haha ![]() take it sleazy, ~kevin |
