distributer

I am trying to replace the distibuter on a 95 with an edi system obdII. With the crank mark lined up with the notch on the timing cover. The rotor is supposed to line up with a mrk on the housing. But it always falls in front of or behind it. And it will not start. Any advise on timing this.

Re: distributer

The timing mark will line up both times that the #1 cyl is at TDC. You have to insure that #1 is TDC on the COMPRESSION stroke. It is possible you are TDC on EXHAUST stroke, or 180 degrees out of time. Either watch the valves, or feel for compression in the spark plug hole to find compression stroke.

Re: distributer

Another possibility: Remember the oil pump drive slot on the bottom of the distributor so line up your marks again and have a helper tap the ignition key on for a second (don't try to start it) as you hold the distributor down and it should drop in the hole as the slot lines up in the oil pump.
