since i know that the non-specific racing section gets a lot of hits, i figured that i would post it here.
i have a wireless router that is used more of a gateway than anything. lan is used on it as well. i was wondering if it was possible to grab the internet connection from the laptop and paralell connect the lap top to the xbox 360. is that possible. btw, the laptop is a mac, which is rather new, but blows for setting bridges. running a wire is out of the question through the house. im just trying to get out of buyin that 100 bucks wireless connector for it.

Re: is this possible?
i don't think it will work because i tried something similar with my ps2. my comp is connected to the internet through a wireless lan and i tried to run a wire from my comp to a network hub and then another wire from the hub to the ps2. but i couldn't get it to go through the comp for the internet connection and eventually gave up.
worth a shot before u spend $100 tho

Re: is this possible?
or i could move the router downstairs, meaning the comp im on now has no internet till i get a wireless pci card, and wire the 360 to the router. ill try and figure something out. i mean im not spending 100 bucks if ui only need to spend like 20 on 100ft ethernet cord or somethin.

Re: is this possible?
yea, honestly do your plan of relocating the router and getting a wifi card for your comp. You can get linksys for about 15 bucks, and don't buy into the bs highspeed models... they'll more than likely use up a ton of your CPU and make your computer slow and your connection unreliable. you can get them at gearsx or something like that http://www.pricewatch.com/networking/3552-1.htm
I think in order to do what you want to do the xbox would have to run something similiar to wingate which allows one comp to link up to another computer and use it as a gate way. I used to do that for a while before I got broadband since you couldn't get two comps on 56ghey. |
